Puccini’s opera of young love in 19th-century Paris is packed with beautiful music, including lyrical arias, celebratory choruses for Act II’s evocation of Christmas Eve in the Latin Quarter and a poignant final scene over which the composer himself wept. Richard Jones’s character-led production perfectly captures La bohème’s mixture of comedy, romance and tragedy, with striking designs by Stewart Laing. The cast features some of the greatest interpreters of Puccini’s bohemian lovers performing today, as well as former members of The Royal Opera’s Jette Parker Young Artists Programme.

With a heavy heart, we write to let you know that we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Walla Walla Movie Crush. We had high hopes. The pandemic appeared to have plateaued and was under control in Walla Walla County about ten days ago, but since then, COVID cases have spiked significantly. Just today, Gov. Inslee put the entire state’s reopening on hold for at least the next two weeks. The health and well-being of our movie-lovers is paramount; thus, we cannot continue moving forward towards that longed-for opening day under the current circumstances. This isn’t what any of us wanted, and we’re devastated to be pulling the plug at this late stage.

As teenagers, kung fu disciples Danny (Alain Uy), Hing (Ron Yuan), and Jim (Mykel Shannon Jenkins) were inseparable. They trained together, fought together, and planned to become the next great martial arts masters. Life, as they say, had other plans. Fast forward 25 years, and each has grown into a washed-up, middle-aged man, seemingly one kick away from pulling a hamstring - and not at all preoccupied with thoughts of martial arts or childhood best friends. But when their old master is murdered, the trio reunites, soon learning that avenging their sifu will require conquering old grudges (and a dangerous hitman still armed with ample knee cartilage) if they are to honorably defend his legacy.
