Cabaret: The Musical

Press Release: Tickets on Sale for “Cabaret”

uly 6, 2017 – Gesa Power House Theatre announces ticket sales for “Cabaret” with performances August 18-27.
“Cabaret” is a musical with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and book by Joe Masteroff. Set in a Berlin nightclub, as the 1920’s draw to a close, the play explores the dark, heady, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. Guests to the Kit Kat Club are welcomed by a garish Master of Ceremonies who urges them to leave their troubles at the door.
“Cabaret” opened on Broadway on November 20, 1966, played for 1,165 performances at the Broadhurst, Imperial, and Broadway Theatres, and won eight Tony Awards. A film version of the musical, starring Joel Grey (the original Emcee) and Liza Minnelli, directed by Bob Fosse, was released in 1972 and received eight Academy Awards. The show was revised twice for Broadway, first in 1987, and again in 1998. This production, directed by former New York City director and producer and Walla Walla native Tyson Kaup (“The Last Five Years” and “Rocky Horror Show”), will be based on the 1998 revival which received four Tony Awards and three Drama Desk Awards.
Performances for “Cabaret” will run August 18, 19, 25, 26 at 7:00 p.m. and August 20 and 27 at 2:00 p.m. Reserved seating tickets ($30-$20) will be made available first to Gesa Power House Theatre Members on Friday, July 7, to e-mail subscribers on Friday, July 14, and to the general public on Friday, July 21.

About the Gesa Power House Theatre

The historic Gesa Power House Theatre is a world-class, 300-seat performing arts venue, located in downtown Walla Walla. The 120-year-old building was once the Walla Walla Gas Plant, built to produce coal gas used to light the streets, businesses, and homes of Walla Walla. In 2011 the Gesa Power House Theatre building was transformed into a state-of-the-art playhouse for live performance. The interior design of the theatre was inspired by Shakespeare’s own intimate Blackfriars Theatre in London, England.

The Gesa Power House Theatre is on the Washington State Building Preservation Commission list of State historic buildings and on the National Register of Historic Places. The venue also hosts a variety of other cultural events, musical concerts, and private events (including weddings).
