Auditioning (A to Z) Workshop

Press Release: “Auditioning (from A to Z)” Actor Workshop – February 17

Gesa Power House Theatre will present “Auditioning (from A to Z)” on Saturday, February 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This workshop is for actors ages 8 and up, and is intended to demystify the audition process in general, and will specifically prepare actors for the upcoming Walla Walla Summer Stage auditions (Annie and 9 to 5).

The workshop is led by two theater professionals (Tyson Kaup and ReNae Davis), and will cover the basics of auditioning for traditional and musical theater, from how to format a headshot and resume to understanding the business of acting and agents to managing nerves and what to expect if you are called back. Participants are asked to bring a prepared one audition piece to the workshop – a song or monologue under one minute in length.

Instructor Tyson Kaup is a Seattle-based actor, director, and producer as well as Artistic Director of the Gesa Power House Theatre Summer Stage. His recent directing credits include The Rocky Horror Show, The Last Five Years, and Cabaret. Tyson’s producing credits include the NYC world premiere of Turtleback High by Kevin Dedes, the feature films March!, Solitary Child, and My Last Day with You, as well as many music videos and commercial productions. As an actor, Tyson has performed on film, television, Off-Broadway, and many regional theaters around the country. He holds a BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts where he studied with the Atlantic Theater Company.

Instructor ReNae Davis is a singer, pianist, lyricist and composer with more than 30 years of teaching and performing experience. Favorite Los Angeles stage credits include: Lola in Damn Yankees, Cassie in A Chorus Line, Sonia in They’re Playing our Song and Margarita in Evita. She has also performed with many famed musical actors and musicians, including The Pointer Sisters, Bonnie Raitt, Julie Andrews, Dixie Carter, Kevin Bacon, and Sean Penn. ReNae holds a BFA in Music and Drama from BYU, and recently joined the board of the Power House Theatre nonprofit.

Tickets ($25) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. Participating actors will also have the opportunity to have headshots taken by a professional photographer during the lunch break for an additional fee of $25 (cash only).

About the Gesa Power House Theatre

The historic Gesa Power House Theatre is a 300-seat performing arts venue, located in downtown Walla Walla. The 120-year-old building was once the Walla Walla Gas Plant, built to produce coal gas used to light the streets, businesses, and homes of Walla Walla. In 2011 the Gesa Power House Theatre building was transformed into a state-of-the-art playhouse for live performance. The interior design of the theatre was inspired by Shakespeare’s own intimate Blackfriars Theatre in London, England.

The Gesa Power House Theatre is on the Washington State Building Preservation Commission list of State historic buildings and on the National Register of Historic Places. The venue also hosts a variety of other cultural events, musical concerts, and private events (including weddings).
