WWU Steel Band Concert with Liam Teague May 15, 2016 @ 7:00 pm $10 – $20

The WWU Steel Band reprises their annual concert at Gesa Power House Theatre on Sunday, May 15 at 7:00 p.m. Joining the band in concert is soloist and “Paganini of the Steelpan” Liam Teague.

Teague currently serves as Head of Steelpan Studies at Northern Illinois University. A native of Trinidad and Tobago, Teague has traveled the world performing with many diverse ensembles, including the National Symphony Orchestra, Dartmouth Wing Ensemble, and Panama National Symphony. He is a strong advocate for original steelpan compositions, has served as musical arranger at Panorama, the most prestigious steelband competition in the world, and has recorded eight albums.

The WWU Steel Band formed in 2002 and is directed by Brandon Beck. The group tours throughout the US and has also toured to the island of Bermuda. In previous years, they have performed with world-class steel pan artists such as Victor Provost, Gary Gibson, and Tom Miller.

“We are excited to perform with astounding steel pan performer Liam Teague,” says Beck. “He will not only perform solos at the concert, but he does us the honor of playing with us on several pieces.”

Proceeds from the concert go to support the WWU Steel Band through recruiting, touring, and purchasing instruments.
