SUMMARY:"Walla Walla": A Short Film Premiere
DESCRIPTION:Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho is proud to present this screening of the short film “Walla Walla” on Sunday\, January 22 at 2 p.m. and at 6 p.m. at the Gesa Power House Theatre. \nIn this short film\, two resourceful young adults drive 400 miles from their town in rural Idaho in pursuit of an abortion out of state. Low on cash and fueled by friendship\, they make the long trek up 1-84 in a beloved but unreliable 25-year-old car. Determined to find the fun in an otherwise stressful situation. Kayla and Tori pivot masterfully around setbacks large and small with good humor and genuine affection. \nEach screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Director Hayley Durelle and select cast members. All ticket sales for this event will benefit PPGWNI and Walla Walla’s Planned Parenthood Ruth Baker Kimball Health Center. \nReserved seating tickets can be purchased by visiting wallawalla.ppgwni.org. \nGesa Power House Theatre is currently operating at full capacity but will continue to follow the most recent guidance from state and county Departments of Health. Current health and safety guidelines at Gesa Power House Theatre are available online or by calling the box office. \nWant to receive early notice and access to ticket sales? SUMMARY:Power House Movie: Sam Now
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre presents a screening of the independent film Sam Now on Wednesday\, January 25\, at 7PM. \nFilmed over an expanse of 25 years\, two brothers go on a 2\,000-mile road trip to solve a family mystery. Shooting on nearly every camera format imaginable\, from hand-developed Super-8 film to Arri 4K\, Sam Harkness and his older half brother Reed use their creative world of fiction filmmaking to dive headfirst into dealing with the issue at hand: Sam’s mom is missing. \nSam’s wetsuit and mask-wearing alter ego\, The Blue Panther\, bounds into frame with youthful energy and a heroic spirit of adventure. But can The Blue Panther save the day? And are these fun-loving brothers actually ready for what lies ahead?\nSolving the mystery of Sam’s mom’s disappearance is only the beginning of their story. \nThe documentary uses a hybrid narrative approach\, drawing from a vast archive of fictional films\, home videos\, intimate family interviews and vérité scenes from over the decades. Sobering revelations blend with playful home movies and vibrant experimental filmmaking by brother and director Reed Harkness. The brothers take a spontaneous road trip in search of answers. We learn of Sam’s mother Jois’ complicated adoption history from Japan. We experience the ripple effects on the Harkness family including Sam’s brother Jared\, father Randy and grandma Doris. And we are there with Sam coming of age from 11 to 36. \n \nSam Now is about growth. The film balances heavy themes and emotional reckonings with buoyant energy and lighthearted spirit. The optimistic teenage Sam we get to know\, with his heart set on finding his mom\, grows into a man whose new hope is to break the cycle of generational trauma. \n\nTickets ($15 Adults\, $10 Students) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. \nGesa Power House Theatre is currently operating at full capacity but will continue to follow the most recent guidance from state and county Departments of Health. Current health and safety guidelines at Gesa Power House Theatre are available online or by calling the box office. \nWant to receive early notice and access to ticket sales?
