SUMMARY:Phoebe's Father (film)
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre presents a screening of the independent feature film Phoebe’s Father on Wednesday\, June 9 at 7:00PM. \n \nPhoebe’s finally found something that lights her fire: cycling. But when her father comes back into her life\, their meeting uncovers wounds that never healed. As her brother tries to reunite the family\, Phoebe won’t let go of long-simmering questions about her lost mother\, and who’s to blame. She sets her sights on racing competitively\, pushing herself harder and faster; but the old evasions don’t work anymore\, and Phoebe finds she has to face her past head on. \nDirector John Helde and the cast worked together to improvise the script for this funny\, touching\, and realistic family portrait set and shot on location in Seattle. \nGeneral admission tickets ($15 adults\, $10 students) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. Seating for each screening is capped at 100 patrons\, as allowed under Washington’s Safe Start Plan. Additional precautions including required mask use for non-vaccinated patrons and physical distancing between households will be observed. \nWant to receive early notice and access to ticket sales? SUMMARY:Power House Movie: A Valley Divided (documentary)
DESCRIPTION:(click here for Spanish translation)\nGesa Power House Theatre presents a Power House Movie screening of the 2021 documentary A Valley Divided on Wednesday\, June 23 at 7:00 p.m. \n \nIn the Yakima Valley\, the nation’s fruit basket\, where populations are increasingly majority-Latino\, elected representatives are still overwhelmingly white. \nA Valley Divided explores the ways in which the Latino community in Eastern Washington is finding its voice and demanding equal representation at the ballot box. The new documentary\, directed by Madeline Gunderson\, reveals the entrenchment of decades of political discrimination and holds up a mirror to the larger story of a changing United States. \nAlthough Yakima County’s population is about 50 percent Hispanic\, the county had had just one Latino county commissioner in its history. A 2020 lawsuit against Yakima County alleges that its at-large voting system dilutes the agency of Latinos\, in violation of the state Voting Rights Act. and pushes for ranked choice voting. This event will have a runtime of approximately 75 minutes. \nWant to receive early notice and access to ticket sales? SUMMARY:Little Watts Family Movie - Louisa: An Amazing Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Walla Walla Valley Honda presents a screening of the animated\, family-friendly movie Louisa: An Amazing Adventure on Saturday\, June 26 at 10AM. \n \nJanuary 12\, 1899 was the setting for one of the most astonishing lifeboat recue attempts during one of the worst storms at sea in living memory. Unable to launch directly into the storm\, the coxswain of the Louisa lifeboat\, decided to haul the lifeboat 13 miles overland to a more sheltered bay in order to rescue a sailing ship. This real life story is dramatically told in Louisa: An Amazing Adventure\, and explores the true courage\, determination\, and extraordinary spirit of ordinary people trying to save the lives of strangers in need. The animation style resembled that of an oil painting brought to life and the adventure is narrated by the coxswain’s daughter\, May\, voiced by acclaimed actor Celia Imrie (Best Exotic Marigold Hotel). \nLouisa: An Amazing Adventure is currently touring festivals and recently won Best Animation Feature at the Moscow International Children’s Film Festival. \nThis Little Watts Family Movie is recommended for ages 8 and up and has a runtime of about an hour. \nGeneral admission tickets ($12 adults\, $8 Youth 12 and under) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500.
