SUMMARY:Film: "Love\, Gilda"
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre will screen the new documentary film Love\, Gilda on Wednesday\, October 3 at 7:00 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Just Us Girls Sharing (J.U.G.S.). \n \nIn Love\, Gilda\, comedienne Gilda Radner reflects on her life and career\, in her own words. Weaving together her recently discovered audiotapes\, interviews with friends (Chevy Chase\, Lorne Michaels\, Laraine Newman\, Paul Shaffer and Martin Short)\, rare home movies and diaries read by modern-day comedians inspired by Gilda (Bill Hader\, Amy Poehler\, Maya Rudolph and Cecily Strong)\, Love\, Gilda opens up a unique window into the honest and whimsical world of a beloved performer whose greatest role was sharing her story. \nGilda Radner puts a smile on the faces of people who remember watching her as one of the original cast members of Saturday Night Live\, where she created and portrayed such now-classic comic characters as Roseanne Roseannadanna\, Emily Litella and Lisa Loopner. She quickly rose to meteoric fame in television\, movies and on Broadway. \nLove\, Gilda\, directed by Lisa D’Apolito\, is a true autobiography\, told in Gilda’s words and in her own voice. Working with the Radner Estate\, D’Apolito unearthed a collection of diaries and personal audio and videotapes documenting her childhood\, her comedy career\, her relationships and ultimately\, her struggle with cancer. This never-before-seen footage and journal entries form the narrative spine of the documentary\, allowing Gilda to tell her own story– through the laughter and sometimes the tears. Incredibly\, she was able to find humor in even the darkest of times. Gilda’s spirit lives on in comedy as a female trailblazer who continues to inspire many present day comedic performers\, including Bill Hader\, Amy Poehler\, Maya Rudolph\, and Cecily Strong. \nAlso interviewed are SNL original cast members– Chevy Chase\, Laraine Newman and Paul Shaffer– as well as\, Lorne Michaels (SNL creator and producer)\, Alan Zweibel (SNL writer)\, Stephen Schwartz (Broadway composer); Andrew Alexander (CEO of Second City) and long-time friend Martin Short. \nThis film has a runtime of 86 minutes. Beer\, wine\, popcorn\, and snacks will be available for purchase\, and may be taken into the theater. No outside food or beverages allowed. \nReserved seating: $15 Adults\, $10 Students (in advance); $18 Adults\, $12 Students (at the door). Tickets will be available to Members on Tuesday\, August 28\, to Email Subscribers on Friday\, August 31\, and to the public on Friday\, September 7\, online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. A portion of the proceeds ($1/ticket) will benefit Shakespeare Walla Walla. \n \nDown on his luck in the suburbs\, John Falstaff plans to hustle his way to a comfortable retirement by seducing the wives of two wealthy men. Unknown to him\, it’s the women of Windsor who really pull the strings\, orchestrating Falstaff’s comeuppance amidst a theatrical smorgasbord of petty rivalries\, jealousies and over-inflated egos. For a fat Englishman\, a Welshman and a Frenchman\, the only way is Windsor… \nDavid Troughton returns to the Royal Shakespeare Company as John Falstaff\, following his recent title role in Titus Andronicus. According to The Times\, “Only a stone could not delight in David Troughton’s Falstaff.” Fiona Laird directs this production. \n \nRuntime: approximately 3 hours including an onscreen introduction and one intermission. Beer\, wine\, popcorn\, and snacks will be available for purchase\, and may be taken into the theater. SUMMARY:Pigs on the Wing - Pink Floyd Tribute
DESCRIPTION:Pink Floyd tribute band Pigs on the Wing will perform “Finding the Dark Side of the Moon” on Friday\, October 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Gesa Power House Theatre. \n \n“Finding the Dark Side of the Moon” is a retrospective live concert experience culminating in a full performance of Pink Floyd’s 1973 concept album “The Dark Side of the Moon.” \nSince its formation in Portland in 2006\, Pigs on the Wing has steadily developed a reputation for delivering a high quality\, high energy take on Pink Floyd’s music. All of the members of the band are seasoned veterans of the original rock scene and balance a decidedly un-tribute like attitude towards the music with a deep understanding of the precision and importance of Pink Floyd in many fans’ lives. The result is a sound and experience both refreshing in delivery and yet true to the original – something the band believes sets it apart from other Pink Floyd tributes. \nAfter immersing themselves in the polished rock theatrics of “The Wall” during the 2017 season – the band felt it was time to try something different. Pigs on the Wing’s 2018 production – “Finding the Dark Side of the Moon\,” call back to the band’s very first show\, which was a performance of “The Dark Side of the Moon.” In the ensuing years\, the band’s regional fan base has grown exponentially alongside the band themselves as musicians\, as well as the scale of the show as an immersive audio-visual experience. \nThis time around – expect two full sets of Pink Floyd music – the first a loosely chronological retrospective of Pink Floyd’s work before becoming a household name; and the second a full performance of what many would argue is among rock music’s finest works from cover to cover\, “The Dark Side of the Moon.” \n \nPigs on the Wing is comprised of (L to R): Eric Welder (bass\, vocals); Pete Galluzzo (sax); David Lindenbaum (guitar\, vocals); Matt Jones (keys\, vocals); Bryan Fairfield (drums); Keeley St. Clair (vocals\, acoustic guitar); Jason Baker (guitar\, vocals). \nReserved seating tickets ($25 adults\, $22 students). This concert is SOLD OUT. Please contact the box office at 509-529-6500 if you would like to be on a wait list for tickets. \nJoin the Facebook event and invite your friends!

DESCRIPTION:The Rude Mechanicals will debut their live theatrical production of Hamlet at Gesa Power House Theatre on October 20 at 7:00 p.m. \nOne of Shakespeare’s most famous plays and often quoted in popular culture\, Hamlet tells the tale of Denmark’s grieving prince who seeks to avenge his father’s murder by bringing the new king\, Claudius (his uncle and his mother’s new husband) to justice. Ghosts from the past will be visible through design elements\, tying in the history of this famous and gut-wrenching play to how it is still incredibly relevant in our current time. \nReserved seating tickets: $25-$20 Adults\, $15 Students (in advance) and $28-$23 Adults\, $17 Students (at the door). Tickets are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. DESCRIPTION:Just Us Girls Sharing (J.U.G.S.) invites you to an EP Release Party for indie folk duo Sound and Stone at Gesa Power House Theatre on Saturday\, October 27 at 7:00 p.m. Proceeds will benefit J.U.G.S. \nBrothers Nico and Bash Evans have been making music as Sound and Stone for more than a decade\, and only recently decided to record their first studio work\, an EP titled “The Vardo\,” with Dave Tate at Red Earth Recording Studios. \n“A mere description of the musical magic created by Sound and Stone does not do justice to the experience that is Sound and Stone. At first glance\, the two appear to be ordinary musicians but once they engage you\, there is an alluring force felt which attracts even the most casual passerby. As they begin to play\, the rhythms\, sound\, skill\, talent\, and personality begin to attract and hypnotize an audience with fascination. The way they are able to make music that reaches the soul is a rare gift offering an enchanting encounter long remembered.”\n– The Desert Pulse \n \nReserved seating tickets ($20-$30) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. A $15 VIP add-on includes an original piece of art work\, a glass of wine and dessert during intermission\, and a meet and greet after the concert. All tickets include a copy of the EP release. \nLet your friends know you are going on Facebook! \nSince 2009\, Just Us Girls Sharing (J.U.G.S.) has been making a difference in the lives of cancer survivors and their families in the Walla Walla Valley and beyond. The locally-formed and operated cancer survivor support network raises funds to directly benefit cancer survivors through cash assistance\, the purchase of household items and appliances—basically\, those things not covered by insurance.
