DESCRIPTION:Just Us Girls Sharing (J.U.G.S.) presents Mandy Harvey in concert on Monday\, March 5\, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. \n \nMandy Harvey is a deaf American singer-songwriter. She was Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer Winner in the most recent season of “America’s Got Talent”. Mandy lost her residual hearing due to a connective tissue disorder at age eighteen. She left the Vocal Music Education program at Colorado State University\, and pursued several career options\, including education\, but returned to music in 2008. She quickly became a regular performer at Jay’s Bistro in Fort Collins and then branched out to having regular concerts at Dazzle Jazz Lounge in Denver (Top 100 Jazz venues in the world). \nMandy Harvey’s Golden Buzzer moment on “America’s Got Talent” has over 25 million views\, CNN’s Great Big Story captured over 10 million hits on social media\, Burt’s Bees signed her up for their “Remarkable Women” campaign\, NBC Nightly News profiled her\, and she has started performing at the world’s most prestigious clubs\, concert stages and festivals. \n“From the first note\, Mandy Harvey tames her audience into stunned appreciation as she glides pitch-perfect from breathy jazz standard to growling blues…. At show’s end the audience is on its feet. Some know the secret. Harvey has not heard any of it – not the applause\, not the talent of the musicians who shared the stage\, not her own incredible voice.” – Los Angeles Times \nA limited number of VIP tables ($100/seat) are available and include side-stage and side-balcony table seating\, a souvenir CD\, and a private meet-and-greet with the performer. Reserved seating tickets ($65-$50) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. SUMMARY:Planes on Paper with Jacob Navarro
DESCRIPTION:Walla Walla Cannabis Company presents Planes on Paper with Jacob Navarro on Saturday\, March 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Gesa Power House Theatre. \n \nSince their last visit to Walla Walla almost a year ago\, Planes on Paper has continued to make waves in the folk music world\, finding themselves in uncharted territory for an Eastern Washington-based band. Their last release\, “Television\,” a politically-motivated single\, garnered Planes on Paper an invite to perform at The John F. Kennedy Center for The Performing Arts\, as well as radio play across the U.S. and Europe\, and a spot in Relix Magazine’s “Five Artists You Should Know.” Past local appearances range from drawing a massive crowds at the Gentlemen of The Road Festival and a sold-out Power House Theatre concert last March\, down to intimate house show venues and private events at Leonetti & Kontos Cellars. They have made Walla Walla a regular tour stop\, and always to rave reviews. \nFor this show\, Planes on Paper will be joined by their full band: Mikey Gervais (The Head and The Heart\, Shallow Lenses) on bass\, Faustine Hudson (The Maldives\, The Grizzled Mighty) on drums\, and on guitar they will be joined by Jacob Navarro\, a first-call session guitarist in the Northwest\, who has recorded or performed for Eddie Vedder\, The Dixie Chicks\, Danny Barnes\, and many more. Jacob Navarro will also open the show. \nBar sponsorship provided by Henry Earl and Russell Creek wineries. \nReserved Seating Tickets: $18 in advance (plus $2 ticket fee); $23 at the door (plus $3 ticket fee) \nThis event is restricted to 21 and older (ID required). \nThe role of Walla Walla Cannabis Company as a supporter of Planes on Paper was recently detailed in the national publication\, Dope Magazine – their relationship being called as the “center of the [music patronage] movement.”\n\nAbout Planes on Paper:\nAs a one year-old project\, Planes on Paper was already receiving high praise from a nearly endless list of media outlets across the country: The Seattle Times\, American Songwriter Magazine\, KEXP Seattle\, WNYU New York\, The Revue\, Ear To The Ground\, and The Stranger\, to name just a few. Now several years into relentless touring\, the praise continues\, and the songwriting duo finds itself at home on both coasts of the US\, and playing some of the area’s most noteworthy festivals… all without yet releasing an album. That unconventional path speaks volumes about the strength of Planes on Paper’s live show. \n“It’s easy to see why Planes on Paper is starting to attract serious attention on the neo-folkie scene.”\n— Paul de Barros\, The Seattle Times \n“There has been no shortage of bands that sound like Planes on Paper in the last 10 years of Seattle music\, which makes it simultaneously delightful and frustrating when one of them is clearly a full head taller than the others.\n— Sean Nelson\, The Stranger \n“This is folk music at the highest level.”\n— Greg Jones\, Ear to the Ground Music \n“Planes on Paper expertly maneuvers dual vocals to produce this eerie\, serene\, beautiful aesthetic […] simultaneously mellow and powerful.”\n— Fallon Schlossman\, WNYC New York \n\nThis concert receives sponsor support from Walla Walla Cannabis Company\, however the smoking or consumption of cannabis is prohibited at Gesa Power House Theatre per the guidelines of the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (full text of Initiative 502 available here). \n \nMarijuana has intoxicating effects and may be habit forming. Marijuana can impair concentration\, coordination\, and judgment. Do not operate a vehicle or machinery under the influence of this drug. There may be health risks associated with consumption of this product.  For use only by adults twenty-one and older. SUMMARY:Live Cinema: "The Winter's Tale" - Royal Ballet
DESCRIPTION:The Live Cinema Series continues with a screening of the current production of The Winter’s Tale by The Royal Ballet on Wednesday\, March 28 at 6:00 p.m. A portion of the proceeds ($1/ticket) will be donated to Danza Classica Ballet Foundation. \n \nChristopher Wheeldon\, Artistic Associate of The Royal Ballet\, created his adaptation of Shakespeare’s late romance The Winter’s Tale for The Royal Ballet in 2014. Building on the success of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland\, The Winter’s Tale received ecstatic praise at its premiere\, acclaimed by critics and audiences alike for its intelligent\, distinctive and emotionally powerful story\, told through exquisite dance. It is now widely judged to be a modern ballet classic. \nThe story follows the destruction of a marriage through consuming jealousy\, the abandonment of a child and a seemingly hopeless love. Yet\, through remorse and regret – and after a seemingly miraculous return to life – the ending is one of forgiveness and reconciliation. With powerful designs by Bob Crowley and atmospheric music by Joby Talbot\, The Winter’s Tale is a masterful modern narrative ballet. \nThis production is filmed live in London and rebroadcast internationally to select screens. This screening runs approximately 3 hours including two intervals and an onscreen introduction. Beer\, wine\, and snacks will be available for purchase. \n \nReserved seating tickets ($15 Adults\, $10 Students/Youth) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500.
