SUMMARY:Live Cinema: "The Dream" - Royal Ballet (mixed program)
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre will screen the current Royal Ballet production of “The Dream / Symphonic Variations /Marguerite and Armand” on Wednesday\, June 28 at 6:00 p.m. This event is filmed live in London and rebroadcast internationally to select screens. \n \nThis gorgeous mixed program demonstrates the great creative vision of Frederick Ashton\, Founder Choreographer of The Royal Ballet\, by celebrating three of his most-loved works. Ashton helped define the English style of ballet – characterized most notably by precise\, fleet footwork\, sensuous épaulement (the way the shoulders are held) and gorgeous line of delicate simplicity. \n“The Dream” is Ashton’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s riotous comedy in which a forest sprite plays havoc\, armed with a love potion. The plot is condensed into 50 minutes of feuding fairies\, sprightly spirits\, confused lovers and\, of course\, a man with the head of an donkey. \n“Symphonic Variations” was Ashton’s first work after World War II\, and one of the Company’s first to be performed on the huge main stage of the Royal Opera House\, in 1946. With six dancers performing a series of quartets\, duets\, sextets and solos to Franck’s brooding “Variations Symphoniques”\, this seminal masterpiece celebrates the pure beauty of movement. \n“Marguerite and Armand” is Ashton’s beautiful and emotional retelling of a well-known story\, familiar to us through Verdi’s opera La traviata. Ashton famously created this poignant ballet on Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev in 1963. \nBeer\, wine\, and snacks will be available for purchase. The screening runs for approximately 3 hours 10 minutes including a 15 minute on-screen introduction and two intermissions. \nGeneral admission tickets ($15 Adults\, $10 Students) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. SUMMARY:Tom Skerritt and the Red Badge Project
DESCRIPTION:One way to “Support Our Troops” is to Support their Stories. Please join legendary actor Tom Skerritt (TOP GUN\, ALIEN\, STEEL MAGNOLIAS) on Friday\, June 30th at 7:00 p.m. at the Gesa Power House Theatre to do just that. \nTom Skerritt and retired Army Captain Evan Bailey are co-founders The Red Badge Project\, a non-profit organization teaching veterans coping with PTSD and TBIs the skills needed for five-star storytelling. \nOn this evening\, Skerritt and two founding faculty members\, Shawn Wong and Warren Etheredge\, will share some of their trade secrets with you and introduce you to a handful of veterans who will share their stories on stage. Etheredge — who will serve as the event’s emcee — is also the co-founder and curator of the Walla Walla Movie Crush that will take place on July 1 and 2\, also at the Power House. \nFor more than five years\, The Red Badge Project has been helping veterans express themselves in order to conquer their demons. (The Walla Walla Public Library has been host to the group since 2014.) You can help the cause by buying tickets – all proceeds benefit The Red Badge Project – to ensure that the stories told by the men and women of national service are held\, healing\, and heard. \nReserved seating tickets ($25) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. \nThe Red Badge Project helps veterans tell their unique truths through storytelling. The Walla Walla Public Library is the only library in the nation chosen to participate in the Red Badge Project. For more information\, go to theredbadgeproject.org or call Library Director Beth Hudson at 509-524-4433. \nThis event is supported by the City of Walla Walla\, Friends of the Walla Walla Public Library\, and the Exchange Club of Walla Walla.
