This program is supported\, in part\, by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.  \nThis year we celebrate the band’s 60th anniversary\, as well as recognize the 30th anniversary since frontman Jerry Garcia’s death and the first Meet-Up since bassist Phil Lesh passed. \nThe Grateful Dead Movie is an immersive concert film that captures The Grateful Dead’s five-night run at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom in October 1974 – their farewell tour before a temporary hiatus. Blending electrifying live performances with animation\, candid backstage footage\, and interviews\, the film is a cultural time capsule of the Deadhead experience. This beloved film is a fan favorite and will be screened as part of our continued Grateful Dead ‘Meet-Up at the Movies’ Regular Offering. It is the 12th of the regular Deadhead Meet-Ups in cinemas. \nJerry Garcia\, co-founder and face of the band who died in 1995\, co-directed the film. Additional content comes in the form of a big screen exclusive theatrical premiere of “China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider” – a bonus live performance from the October ‘74 Winterland shows not included in the official film release.\nThe Grateful Dead are an iconic American rock band\, who formed in 1965 in Palo Alto\, California. They are known for their devoted fanbase – their die-hard followers\, known as Deadheads\, followed them on tour and created a unique subculture centered around live music and community.\n\nTickets are available for $15 ($10 for students) NOW\, either online or via the Box Office at 509-529-6500.

SUMMARY:All God's Children
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre proudly presents All God’s Children on Wednesday\, September 24\, 2025\, at 7PM. This program is supported\, in part\, by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission. \nIn an unprecedented attempt to heal centuries of racism and antisemitism\, and combat the rising racial and ethnic tension in their Brooklyn communities\, the largest reform synagogue and the oldest black Baptist Church attempt to unite their congregations and bring about peace\, by becoming family. Shot over five years by acclaimed documentary filmmaker Ondi Timoner\, ALL GOD’S CHILDREN follows her sister\, activist Rabbi Rachel Timoner\, and her Congregation Beth Elohim’s partnership with Reverend Dr. Robert Waterman of Antioch Baptist Church as their faith is put to the test\, and both congregations struggle not to let their differences drive them apart. Though it’s a fraught partnership\, they refuse to walk away\, no matter how hard it gets\, and ultimately emerge with an inspiring model for how other communities might build bridges across religious\, economic and class divides to foster enduring\, powerful partnerships. \n\n \n“I began what became ALL GOD’S CHILDREN as a short film called REBEL RABBI in 2019. I was inspired by my sister’s Rabbi Rachel Timoners determination to do whatever she could to set things right in the world. As a Rabbi\, she had been arrested eight times in the last couple of years for leading nonviolent protests\, but I knew Rachel’s primary mission was always to fight racism\, dating back to our childhood in the segregated South. \nShortly after we started filming\, she had a meeting with Reverend Dr. Robert Waterman\, and they set about an unprecedented partnership to try to stop racism and antisemitism in their Brooklyn communities by becoming family – so following Rachel and Robert’s mission became our focus\, and boy was it a tumultuous ride! \nFive years later we have emerged with a feature film which I believe is an inspiring example of how to foster enduring dialogue and the power of partnership\, across all differences – religious\, racial\, or economic.” — Ondi Timoner. Director/Producer/Editor/Writer \nReserved tickets will be available for $15 ($10 for students) on May 15th\, either online or via the Box Office at 509-529-6500. This program is supported\, in part\, by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission. This project is also supported in part by Creative West which receives support in part from the National Endowment for the Arts\, a federal agency. \nC Street Brass began in 2008 as a small project between five friends who are coincidentally the most handsome men ever to grace the earth. Equally as comfortable in the sound world of baroque music as they are in Broadway\, C Street Brass’ mission is to connect lovers of the arts from all walks of life around a highly energetic and engaging concert experience. \nC Street Brass was Ensemble in Residence at Carnegie Mellon University from 2012-2015 During this time the group fell in love with the thriving music scene of Pittsburgh\, PA where the group is now based. SUMMARY:Preserved
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre proudly presents PRESERVED on Wednesday\, October 15\, 2025\, at 7PM. \nIn an era of wildfires\, drought\, and species decline\, Vermejo is proof that ecosystem restoration is possible. And it’s a blueprint for where it can happen next. PRESERVED is more than a film—it’s a call to action. From farmers and ranchers to hikers and hunters\, we all have a role to play.\n\nFor nearly 175 years\, the Southwestern United States has seen civilizations rise and fall\, leaving behind landscapes stripped by time and industry. Northern New Mexico’s 560\,000-acre Vermejo is one such place—a land rich with history\, from dinosaurs and early Indigenous communities to homesteaders\, a conservation-minded grain baron\, and Hollywood’s glitterati seeking outdoor recreation. But modern times took their toll\, leaving it overgrazed and scarred by mining. \nIn 1996\, Ted Turner bought the land as part of his work to restore and protect lands across the United States. A dedicated team began to work to heal the land\, transforming it into a thriving sanctuary. Today\, Vermejo stands as a testament to what’s possible: biodiversity restored\, landscapes reborn\, and a model for global conservation. \nShot over 130+ days in breathtaking cinematography\, PRESERVED unveils this hidden paradise\, capturing ancient archaeological wonders and unseen wildlife behaviors—bears stealing mountain lion kills\, microscopic worlds thriving in water-filled potholes\, and animals adapting to a changing planet. Scientists\, ranchers\, and visionaries come together to revive a landscape once thought lost\, with voices like media mogul Ted Turner\, leading conservationist Kris Tompkins\, and renowned author Craig Childs. \nThis program is supported\, in part\, by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.  \nReserved tickets will be available for $15 ($10 for students) on August 15th\, either online or via the Box Office at 509-529-6500. SUMMARY:Checkpoint Zoo
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre proudly presents CHECKPOINT ZOO on Wednesday\, October 29\, 2025\, at 7PM. \nCheckpoint Zoo documents a daring rescue led by a heroic team of zookeepers and volunteers who risked their lives to save thousands of animals trapped in a zoo behind enemy lines during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.\n\nOn February 24\, 2022\, Russia invaded Ukraine\, starting the worst war Europe has seen in over 50 years. In the early days of the invasion\, some of the fiercest fighting was on the outskirts of Kharkiv\, Ukraine’s second – largest city. On one side was the advancing Russian Army\, on the other side the\ndefending Ukrainian Army. And in between them was a zoo… called Feldman Ecopark. \nMore than just a sanctuary for animals\, Feldman Ecopark offered countless community programs from animal therapy to charity events for children with special needs. It was a cultural center for Kharkiv’s 1.4 million citizens\, unfortunately positioned less than 30 kilometers from the Russian border. When the invasion started\, Kharkiv turned into a battleground\, and the staff was forced to flee Ecopark\, leaving 5\,000 animals trapped in between the Russian and Ukrainian frontlines. Both sides were firing on each other\, and everything that fell short landed in Feldman Ecopark. But that wasn’t enough to stop several brave zookeepers from venturing back into the park time and time again to continue caring for the surviving animals. When two zookeepers were killed\, four\nvolunteers appeared on Feldman’s doorstep\, ready to help in any way they could. \nAs the war continued\, and the shelling increased\, it was clear that even the incredible bravery of the zoo staff wouldn’t be enough to save the animals. The zoo’s founder\, Oleksandr Feldman\, posted a desperate plea to social media asking for help. Miraculously\, the post went viral\, and zoos from across Ukraine and all of Europe volunteered to house the remaining animals. \nEncouraged by the response\, the zoo staff and these volunteers resolved to do the impossible – they would sneak back into Feldman Ecopark and evacuate thousands of animals\, including many dangerous predators\, and bring them to safety. In doing so\, they put themselves in incredible danger\, risking their lives to save innocent animals. \nWorking from footage captured by the zookeepers\, volunteers\, news media\, and himself on his own trip to Ukraine\, filmmaker Joshua Zeman tells the moving\, suspenseful\, and powerful story of these real – life heroes. The film details the initial attack\, the efforts to continue tending to the trapped animals\, the hair – raising evacuation\, and tragically\, the price these volunteers paid to do the right thing. \nThe zookeepers and volunteers of Checkpoint Zoo show us the absolute best of humanity at a time when it is all too easy to focus on the worst. In the face of violence\, destruction\, and cruelty\, this film is a testament to the power of compassion\, empathy\, and sacrifice. \nThis program is supported\, in part\, by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.  \nReserved tickets will be available for $15 ($10 for students) on August 15th\, either online or via the Box Office at 509-529-6500. SUMMARY:The Last Class
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre proudly presents THE LAST CLASS on Wednesday\, November 12\, 2025\, at 7PM. \nThe Last Class is a nuanced and deeply personal portrait of master educator Robert Reich teaching his final course and reflecting on a period of immense transformation\, personally and globally. It is a love letter to education. The former Secretary of Labor might be famous for his public service\, best – selling books\, and viral social media posts\, but he always considered teaching his true calling. Now\, after over 40 years and an extraordinary 40\,000 students\, Reich is preparing for his last class. \nOver the course of the film\, Reich confronts the impending finality\, and his own aging\, with increasing candor\, introspection\, and\, ultimately\, emotion. He displays a rawness of feeling he has never shared publicly before. Drawing on his lifetime in politics\, he uses his class\, “Wealth and Poverty\,” to offer us all a deeper look at why inequalities of income and wealth have widened significantly since the late 1970s\, and why this poses dangerous risks to our society. \nOne thousand students fill the biggest lecture hall on the UC Berkeley campus\, the last class to receive Reich’s wisdom and exhortations not to accept that the world has to stay the way it is. His belief in the next generation’s ability to take on the fight is inspiring. \n \nReserved tickets are available for $15 ($10 for students)\, either online or via the Box Office at 509-529-6500.
