SUMMARY:Stella Cole
DESCRIPTION:The hottest new musical sensation on TikTok right now is undoubtedly Stella Katherine Cole. As if grabbing the attention of Michael Bublé\, James Taylor\, and Meghan Trainor on social media wasn’t enough\, she’s racked up over 5 million likes with her infectious covers of Sara Vaughan\, Julie Andrews\, Ella Fitzgerald\, and other classic favorites that she brings to a new audience of eager listeners. She’s also fresh off of a successful national tour with the Postmodern Jukebox that spawned an infectious cover of Flowers by Miley Cyrus. This programming is supported in part by the Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF) and the National Endowment for the Arts. \nStella is part of this younger generation herself\, having just graduated in 2021 from Northwestern University with a double major in theatre and international relations\, a German minor\, and a musical theatre certificate. She graduated half a year early to start developing a pop fusion project with GRAMMY Award winning Producer Dave O’Donnell (James Taylor\, Katy Perry\, Ray Charles). The resulting EP was met with great reviews from indie music publications\, and the music video has been awarded in over ten international film festivals. \nStepping into the spotlight of New York’s jazz scene might be daunting to some\, but Stella has proven that she is ready to stake her claim in the ever-changing\, live music landscape and follow in the footsteps of inspirational artists that have come before her. \nTicket prices vary based on the day of the event: $34-$44.

SUMMARY:The Linguini Incident
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre proudly presents The Linguini Incident on Wednesday\, July 17\, 2024 at 7:00PM \nLucy (Rosanna Arquette\, Pulp Fiction) is an underpaid waitress at “Dali”\, a terminally hip New York City restaurant\, who’s seriously in need of cash. Dali’s new\, mysterious\, charming (and very in debt) bartender\, Monte (David Bowie\, The Hunger) needs to marry someone\, anyone\, by the end of the week… or else. \nTogether they join forces— along with Lucy’s lingerie designing best friend\, Viv (Eszter Balint\, Stranger Than Paradise) — to rob the popular eatery and solve their financial woes. However these three are far from master criminals and they soon learn that in robberies\, as in love\, things never go as planned. \nThis “lively and amusing” (Los Angeles Times) romantic caper co-stars Andre Gregory (Demolition Man)\, Buck Henry (Heaven Can Wait) and Academy Award winner Marlee Matlin (Children of a Lesser God) and features “David Bowie’s zaniest most underrated film role” (Collider) in this engaging romantic comedy from acclaimed director Richard Shepard (The Matador) in this never before seen director’s cut. \nReserved seating tickets are $15 ($10 for students) and are available online or by calling 509-529-6500.

SUMMARY:Edward Scissorhands (dance)
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre proudly presents Edward Scissorhands on Wednesday\, September 25\, at 7:00 PM\, and Sunday\, September 29\, at 2:00 PM. \nMatthew Bourne’s magical dance production of Edward Scissorhands has carved a place in the hearts of audiences worldwide since its premiere in 2005. Filmed live for the first time in March 2024 at the Wales Millenium Centre\, Cardiff\, this “visually arresting and ceaselessly inventive” (Metro) production is “the perfect treat for all the family” (The Times). \nIn a castle high on a hill lives Edward: a boy created by an eccentric inventor. When his creator dies he is left alone and unfinished with only scissors for hands until a kindly townswoman invites him to live with her suburban family. Can Edward find his place in the well-meaning community which struggles to see past his curious appearance to the innocence and gentleness within? \n“The story of Edward Scissorhands has never felt timelier. In an era when uniqueness and identity are both celebrated and reviled\, the story of how we treat anyone who appears to be different in our communities is as poignant and relevant now\, as when my dear friend Caroline Thompson wrote the screenplay for Tim Burton’s legendary movie fable some 33 years ago… If you come to see it in cinemas\, I hope that you too will fall in love with the enchanting story of Edward Scissorhands\, the incomplete boy left alone in a strange new world.” Sir Matthew Bourne\, Artistic Director\, New Adventures. \nFilmed during a live event\, the Live Cinema Series offers audiences an equivalent to the best seat in the house\, with incredibly detailed close-ups of the performers. \nReserved seating tickets are $15 ($10 for students) and are available online or by calling 509-529-6500. Runtime is 95 minutes. \n \n★★★★★ ‘Stunning! The wonders keep coming in Bourne’s magical version of the Tim Burton classic.’ The Observer\n★★★★★ ‘Straight from the heart. A stunning finale that knocks you sideways.’ Metro\n★★★★★ ‘Full of wit and invention. A joyful theatre experience.’ WhatsOnStage

SUMMARY:Shane Smith & The Saints
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, September 27\, at 8 PM\, Gesa Power House Theatre welcomes Shane Smith & The Saints. This event is a fundraiser\, aiming to aid victims of domestic violence\, support youth programs\, and ensure that local families and children have what they need for a great school year and holiday season. \n“It ain’t black or white\, babe; it’s all the greys between\,” Shane Smith sings in “The Greys Between\,” the first single from Norther. On the surface\, it’s a cinematic love song about a relationship’s twists and turns\, punctuated by slide guitar\, Appalachian fiddle\, and sharp storytelling. Take a deeper listen to Shane Smith and the Saints’ fourth studio album\, though\, and those words also sound like the motto of a band that’s spent the past decade blurring the lines between genres. \nNorther is anything but monochromatic. Written and recorded during breaks in the band’s touring schedule\, the album captures Shane Smith and the Saints at their most colorful\, offering up a hard-hitting version of American roots music that’s influenced by country\, folk\, and roadhouse rock & roll. It’s a sound that’s been shaped by the road\, where the Saints spent the past decade on tour\, building a cult audience with each gig. Those years of raw\, redemptive performances are now paying off — not only with headlining concerts at bucket-list venues like Red Rocks Amphitheater (which the group sold out in 36 hours) and the Ryman Auditorium\, but also with an appearance on the hit TV show Yellowstone\, where the Saints premiered Norther‘s final track\, “Fire in the Ocean\,” with an onscreen performance. \nFor an independent band like Shane Smith and the Saints\, the work is never done. “It’s like you can’t help but feel like you’ve paid your dues to get to a certain spot\, but once you get there\, you realize you’re just starting to touch the surface of the bigger picture\,” Smith admits. “At the end of the day\, it still feels like we’re getting discovered. But maybe that’s what it’s all about.” \nAll ticket holders are invited to a pre-party at Rotie Cellars from 3:30 to 5:30 for a complimentary full pour and light bites catered by TMACS! \nAbout This Fundraiser: \nWallaRocks was born from a desire to create a lasting legacy. Following a show\, one of our founders found themselves on the tour bus with Shane Smith and the Saints\, sharing the beautiful wines from our valley\, when the idea struck. What if they could create something that was both a heck of a good time and a way to make a meaningful monetary impact on organizations that help those in our valley who need it most? You can find out more here! \nReserved seating tickets are available for $325\, and can be purchased either online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. All proceeds will be donated to local charities. \nThis event is a rental. To learn more about renting the theater for your own event\, click here!

SUMMARY:Majority Rules
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, October 2\, at 7 PM\, Gesa Power House Theatre is proud to present the documentary Majority Rules. \nAlaska is gearing up to do something that no other state has ever done: Adopting a pair of election reforms that will eliminate traditional party primaries and allow voters to rank their candidates by preference. Just as election workers\, citizens\, and politicians are beginning to adapt to this new system\, the state’s longest-serving Congressman unexpectedly dies\, creating an open seat and prompting a special election that will test this system months earlier than expected. As dozens of candidates –including former Governor Sarah Palin– jump into the race for the highly coveted seat\, everyone must learn how these new voting reforms will change the rules of campaigning and winning. The surprising outcome in that special election leads to a groundswell of support for election reform in other states and fierce pushback from political parties and partisans\, just as the Alaska general election gets underway. \nVeteran political documentary filmmaker AJ Schnack (Caucus\, Convention) returns to the campaign trail asking whether these new Alaska reforms\, an all-candidate open primary and an instant runoff general election\, might be a prescription for what ails the American democratic experiment. Traveling across the country\, Schnack and his crew interview reform supporters and opponents\, looking at where these reforms are already in place and where they may soon be adopted. The resulting film answers two of our nation’s most pressing questions: How did the American electoral system become so dysfunctional\, and can changes to how we vote change our entire system for the better? \n \nReserved tickets will be available for $15 ($10 for students) on August 15th\, either online or via the Box Office at 509-529-6500. SUMMARY:Kommuna Lux
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, October 18\, at 7 PM\, Gesa Power House Theatre is proud to present Kommuna Lux. This programming is supported in part by the Creative West and the National Endowment for the Arts. \nCome fall in love with Odesa\, Ukraine\, the Pearl of the Black Sea! Kommuna Lux brings you the heritage music of their beloved hometown. Klezmer\, Balkan\, and Urban Chanson\, with a dash of Ukrainian Folk and powered by rocket fuel\, Kommuna Lux impacts the crowd with a nostalgic\, high-energy Big Band sound from the bygone days of speakeasies and rum runners. \nThese conservatory-trained musicians started out playing flash mobs in the markets\, piers\, and streets of Odesa\, and quickly moved up to local and national stages. \nWhen Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022\, the band went into shock along with the rest of their countrymen. One musician even left to join the army. But the others soon decided that they could do more good with their instruments than guns\, and began touring Europe in earnest to raise money and support for Ukraine. They raised thousands of dollars that summer\, and became the “go to band” for Klezmer music in both Germany and Poland. Their first USA tour in Fall 2023 was so successful\, they founded a 501-c3 nonprofit to make it even easier to support Ukraine. \nPeople don’t just listen to Kommuna Lux. They fall in love! No one can resist these playful\, passionate Ukrainian musicians\, who have so much fun on stage that you get caught up in their joy. \nReserved seating tickets beginning at $30\, or $20 for students\, will be available online or by calling the box office (509-529-6500) starting August 15th. SUMMARY:What is a Chief?
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, October 23\, at 7 PM\, Gesa Power House Theatre proudly presents What is a Chief? This event is sponsored by the Pacific Power Foundation\, George T. Welch Community Grant\, and Humanities Washington. \nAt the age of 55\, John Halliday became legally blind. As a Muckleshoot Tribal member of Duwamish ancestry\, Halliday says his Native American world view\, cultural traditions\, and values\, which have sustained Native tribes throughout history\, long before colonization\, have helped him overcome the challenges associated with losing his sight.  \nToo often\, our understanding of American history begins with foreign European powers “settling” the land—as though no thriving human communities existed here. Woven in with John’s personal story\, audiences will learn Washington State history from a Native American perspective\, and how that history can teach resilience. \nGesa Power House Theatre is committed to ensuring that the arts are for everyone. Join us for this free community event\, bringing impactful stories to the Walla Walla Valley. Donations are welcome! \n
