SUMMARY:Little Watts: Peter and the Wolf
DESCRIPTION:On March 23\, 2023\, at 7 p.m.\, Tel Aviv Wind Quintet will perform “Peter and the Wolf” at the Gesa Power House Theatre. As part of the Little Watts Family Series\, this event is sponsored in part by Walla Walla Valley Honda and AAUW-Walla Walla. \nThe Tel Aviv Wind Quintet is one of the most successful chamber music ensembles in Israel today. The group was established in 2009 by five young Israeli musicians seeking to expose a broader audience to the wonderful wind repertoire\, as well as commissioned works. By combining music with other art forms such as theater and movement\, the Quintet also aims to build upon and expand the existing concert format. \n \n“A charming chamber arrangement of ‘Peter and the Wolf’. The Tel Aviv Wind Quintet members\, directed by Ari Teperberg\, have created a new format… Five players are responsible for the solo parts\, the orchestral playing\, and even the narration\, the story telling\, and the acting. This format works particularly well thanks to the talents of Quintet… the excellent playing of this group was no surprise\, but the graceful and humorous theatrical presentation made this show especially enjoyable.”\n—Amir Mandel\, ‘Weekly recommendation’\, Ha’aretz\, November 25\, 2020 \nThe Quintet is supported by the Israeli Ministry of Culture. It was awarded the Eilam Prize for Israeli Performers (2011) as well as grants from the Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts\, Haifa Arts Foundation\, Ronen Foundation\, and the Israel Lottery Council for Culture & Arts. \nReserved seating tickets ($12 adults\, $8 Youth 12 and under) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. \nGesa Power House Theatre is currently operating at full capacity\, but will continue to follow the most recent guidance from state and county Departments of Health. Current health and safety guidelines at Gesa Power House Theatre are available online or by calling the box office. \nWant to receive early notice and access to ticket sales? SUMMARY:Power House Movies: Seattle Jewish Film Festival - Selected Shorts
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre’s Director of Film Programming Warren Etheredge curates a collection of the best short films from the 2023 Seattle Jewish Film Festival for this program on March 29 at 7 p.m. \nOne of two in-person encore screenings (the other is set for March 30 at Hillel at University of Washington)\, Walla Walla’s showing of the Seattle Jewish Film Festival 2023 lineup is an exploration of the many ways grief is observed\, celebrated\, and/or sanctified. \nIn the words of Curator Warren Etheredge: \n“Spiritually and culturally\, we have many ways to mourn and bless the dead. Some follow prescribed customs\, others form new traditions with the passing of loved ones. The Mourner’s Kaddish\, the Jewish prayer recited in honor of the deceased never mentions death or dying\, but instead proclaims the greatness of G-d. It encourages reciters to not wallow in grief or ignore the impact of loss altogether. In fact\, the word kaddish actually means sanctification in Aramaic\, similar to the Hebrew word kadosh\, or holy. This program of short films examines the metaphorical progression and three stages of Jewish mourning rituals—from Aninut to Shiva to Sheloshim—noting the passing of parents\, grandparents\, neighbors\, strangers\, and even a beached whale. Curated together\, these beautiful lamentations also attest to how international artists sanctify a period of global grief with cinematic blessings.” \n \nTo virtually catch the Seattle Jewish Film Festival in full\, visit the festival’s main website here. \nReserved seating tickets ($15 adults\, $10 students) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. This event will have a total runtime of about 90 minutes. \nIf you want to purchase four or more titles in the Power House Movie series\, save 10% by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. (This offer is not available online.) \nWant to receive early notice and access to ticket sales? Join the +Power Club (highest priority) or sign up for our e-mail list (at the bottom of this page)!

SUMMARY:The Wildcards
DESCRIPTION:The Wildcards will perform live at Gesa Power House Theatre on Saturday\, April 1\, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. \nAshley Gearing and Andrea Young are no strangers to Nashville’s music scene. Both have numerous accolades to their names having worked with some of the biggest and baddest names in the business. The girls bonded while touring internationally with the former\, critically-acclaimed band Farewell Angelina. The two found that their chemistry needed its own stage. Having always been identified as the “wildcards” of any project they were involved in\, the band was born. Each has had individual successes in their extensive careers but have learned they are better together: musically\, creatively and spiritually. This new project exposes Ashley Gearing’s powerhouse vocals and rhythmic acoustic guitar alongside Andrea Young’s ferocious fiddle playing and angelic voice—add in the dynamic of their songwriting and the deck is stacked. \nJoining forces with some of the world’s finest musicians\, they have a show filled with unforgettable original music and cover song favorites led by irresistible harmonies and fiery musicianship. Their high-energy performances have captured attention and secured opening slots for such artists as Mitchell Tenpenny\, Walker Hayes\, and Joe Nichols. With The Wildcards\, you bring the good vibes\, they’ll bring the party. \nThe duo has recently been featured in renowned magazine American Songwriter\, Off The Record Live\, and CMT for the release of singles\, “Light On” and “Pour The Wine” from their “Bar Room Sessions” collection.  Live\, acoustic\, and just plain fun\, the“Bar Room Sessions” captures the raw magic of the pair spreading a little light—pouring a little wine—and sharing their hearts out on the stage. \nReserved seating tickets ($45 adults\, $20 students) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. \nGesa Power House Theatre is currently operating at full capacity\, but will continue to follow the most recent guidance from state and county Departments of Health. SUMMARY:"Being Michelle"
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre proudly presents the award-winning feature-length documentary “Being Michelle” on Wednesday\, April 26 at 7 p.m. \n“Being Michelle” follows the astonishing journey of a deaf and disabled woman who survived incarceration and abuse under unimaginable circumstances by a system that refused to accommodate her needs as a deaf person with autism. Michelle’s trajectory changed when she met Kim Law\, a blind volunteer life coach who teaches classes to people in prison. Today\, outside of prison\, Kim and Michelle are doing the difficult work of unraveling Michelle’s history\, of telling the story of Michelle’s traumatic childhood and her adverse experiences in the criminal justice system. With the support of Kim\, Michelle realizes her own voice and strength. Throughout the film Michelle’s artwork provides her own depiction of the trauma she survived as well as a means to her recovery. Ultimately\, “Being Michelle” is a story of redemption. It is about the bonds between women committed to thriving in a broken system\, who are forging a path to healing that can only come through facing the truth and communicating it\, together. \n“Being Michelle” has received a landslide of accolades which are all listed on their website. More recently\, at the 2023 IDYLLWILD International Festival of Cinema\, an event the Hollywood Insider calls “the greatest little film festival on earth\, “Being Michelle” received recognition in three different categories: (Winner) Golden Era Humanitarian Film Award\, (Vanguard) Award for Cinematic Achievement Director Documentary Feature\, (Vanguard) Award for Cinematic Achievement Documentary Feature.   \nReserved seating tickets are $15 for adults ($10 for students) and are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. \nIf you want to purchase four or more titles in the Power House Movie series\, save 10% by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. SUMMARY:The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre presents the folk music of The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc on Saturday\, April 29\, at 7 p.m. This programming received support from ArtsWA\, WESTAF (the Western States Arts Federation)\, and the National Endowment for the Arts. \nExpertly weaving the musical traditions of Norway\, Sweden\, and The Shetland Islands\, The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc have astounded audiences everywhere with their larger-than-life sound produced from a fiddle\, an octave fiddle\, and a viola. As a result\, Olav Luksengård Mjelva (Norway)\, Anders Hall (Sweden) and Kevin Henderson (Shetland Islands) have swiftly gained a reputation for their unique blend of fiddle music balancing tradition and innovation since the inception of the Bloc in early 2009. \n“Seldom before can three fiddlers have sounded so well matched as the Nordic Fiddlers Bloc\,” writes The Herald. “And seldom before can three fiddles have sounded so much like four and at times five instruments without using electronic trickery.” \n \nThe show will run about two hours including an intermission. \nReserved seating tickets start at $25 ($20 for students) and are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. \nGesa Power House Theatre is currently operating at full capacity\, but will continue to follow the most recent guidance from state and county Departments of Health. SUMMARY:Kate & The Crocodiles
DESCRIPTION:Kate & The Crocodiles will perform a concert at Gesa Power House Theatre on Saturday\, July 22 at 7 p.m. to benefit Trilogy Recovery Community. \nKate & The Crocodiles is a Portland-based trio that presents compelling indie rock originals and covers mixed with early jazz\, classical art song and reinventions of classic rock.
