SUMMARY:Pigs on the Wing: Echoes of Pink Floyd
DESCRIPTION:Pigs on the Wing return to the Gesa Power House Theatre on Friday\, November 1\, the first show of their two-night residency. \nPigs on the Wing’s 2023-2024 tour\, “Echoes of Pink Floyd”\, is a second act to the band’s previous year’s tour. As before\, the Echoes of Pink Floyd tour will feature a new selection of the very best of classic-era Pink Floyd cuts organized into 2 distinct sets. Rather than performing a single album from start to end\, expect to hear the band focus on their favorite sections of the classic albums\, including hits\, deep cuts\, and the band’s trademark willingness to explore the sonic space in experimental improvisation. Fans can expect an immersive visual show in a don’t – miss event for any Pink Floyd fan! \nFrom its garage-rock roots in 2006 as a one-off show to full-album productions to performing for\nthousands of fans each year\, Portland-based Pigs on the Wing have built a loyal following dedicated to the band’s high-energy take on Pink Floyd’s music. All members of Pigs on the Wing are seasoned veterans of the Pacific Northwest rock scene and are unapologetic in bringing their wide-ranging musical influences to the table. \nSetting the band aside from other tribute rock acts\, Pigs on the Wing balance a decidedly un-tribute-like attitude towards the music with precision to detail and a deep understanding of the importance of Pink Floyd’s music in the lives of fans everywhere. \nAmongst the band’s accomplishments\, Pigs on the Wing has in recent years featured full album performances of The Dark Side of the Moon\, Wish You Were Here\, Animals\, and The Wall and was recently ranked the #4 Pink Floyd tribute worldwide. None are bigger fans of the work of Pink Floyd than the members of Pigs on the Wing themselves\, a dedication which has been foremost in the band’s approach since the very beginning. \nPigs on the Wing is: Eric Welder (bass/vocals); Matt Jones ( keys/vocals); Bryan Fairfield (drums); Holly Brooks (vocals); Dave Lindenbaum ( guitar/vocals) Jason Baker ( guitar/vocals); Matt Sulikowski (saxophone). \nReserved seating tickets are $45 per show. These are available for purchase online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500.

SUMMARY:AMERICA'S SWEETHEARTS
DESCRIPTION:On November 8\, 2024\, the Gesa Power House Theatre proudly presents AMERICA’S SWEETHEARTS. This event is sponsored by Tulalip Tribes\, Pacific Power Foundation\, Greater Hermiston Community Foundation\, Creative West\, and the National Endowment for the Arts. \nAmerica has loved the swinging sounds of female close-harmony groups even before The Andrews Sisters hit the airwaves with “Bei Mir Bist Du Schön” in 1937\, but audiences will hear those great vintage songs with fresh ears when AMERICA’S SWEETHEARTS take the stage in their fresh and vibrant show! These New York City-based ladies have performed across the USA at iconic spaces honoring our veterans (the Intrepid Air and Space Museum\, the WASP Museum) as well as large theatres and intimate cabaret venues\, getting crowds tapping their feet to hits like “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” as they celebrate history through their crystal-clear harmony and colorful costumes. With selections from the Great American Songbook\, classic Broadway\, pop tunes from the 1950s\, and jazz\, AMERICA’S SWEETHEARTS charm audiences of all ages while navigating their way through a variety of trios\, duets\, and solo features… all with a slice of old-fashioned fun! \nReserved seating tickets are $25 to $35\, with a student rate of $20. These will be available for purchase online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500\, starting August 15th.

SUMMARY:Kira Soltanovich
DESCRIPTION:On December 31\, at 7 PM\, Gesa Power House Theatre welcomes to the stage Kira Soltanovich. \nKira Soltanovich is a comedian\, actress\, and writer best known for her correspondent work on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for almost 9 years. She was the Phony Photo Booth\, which turned into the show’s longest-running comedy piece. (that didn’t have Jay in it). Kira teams up with Jay Leno again in the You Bet Your Life game show reboot in syndication on FOX now. \nKira has a half-hour stand-up special on Showtime called Here Comes Trouble and a one-hour stand-up special on Amazon called You Did This To Me. She’s the sidekick to host Donald Faison on the Netflix game show\, Winsanity and she’s been a recurring comedian on several FOX television shows: Punchline and The Drama. Kira was a series regular on two seasons of TruTV’s How To Be A Grownup\, and also shot two seasons of the Facebook series The Turndown which was shot exclusively in a bed. \nMany of her fans remember her from the hidden camera show\, Girls Behaving Badly\, where she was a series regular for 4 seasons. Kira has been featured on Comedy Central\, NBC’s Last Comic Standing\, Nickelodeon\, several Disney shows\, and one of her most unique claim to fame moments came when Hell’s Kitchen made her the “prize” for the winning team of chefs who got a night out at The Laugh Factory on the Sunset Strip. \nKira was born in the former Soviet Union\, was traded for grains from the United States and immigrated in American when she was 2 years old. Kira honed her comedy chops all throughout grade school and up until high school graduation. It’s amazing how telling an angry principal a few jokes can get you out of serious trouble. \nReserved seating tickets starting at $25 ($20 for students) will be available online or at the box office (509-529-6500) beginning August 15th. SUMMARY:Know Your Place
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, January 15th\, Gesa Power House Theatre presents the film Know Your Place. \nSet against the rapidly changing landscape of Seattle\, Know Your Place is a poignant slice-of-life drama following 15-year-old Robel Haile\, an Eritrean-American boy\, as he embarks on a seemingly simple errand that transforms into an emotional journey. Tasked with delivering a huge and heavy suitcase across town\, destined for a sick family member in his parents ‘homeland’\, Robel and his best friend Fahmi must navigate Seattle’s evolving streets while confronting themes of family responsibility\, identity\, and the dislocation caused by economic displacement. \nThe film explores the essence of home—what it means to a young boy at a time of personal transition and to a city undergoing significant redevelopment. Director Zia Mohajerjasbi captures Seattle’s beauty and reflects on the dissolution of communities\, making Know Your Place both a love letter and a lament for a hometown in flux. \n \nDirector Statement \nIt is personal as an attempt to capture the beauty of the place that raised me and those I keep company with\, in this moment of rapid transition; in which the disappearance of the familiar continues to gain momentum with increasing scope and intensity. The dissolution of community\, economic displacement\, and redevelopment of legacy neighborhoods has made part of the city to which I’d been intimately connected almost unrecognizable. This film is about capturing some sense of what Seattle is\, what it has been\, what it is becoming. It is a film about home. \nThrough an intimate narrative lens and characterization\, “Know Your Place” depicts impermanence as a relative experience. The film centers this experience through the eyes of Robel\, an Eritrean-American boy of 15 years\, at a time of transition in his own life\, within the greater transitional context of Seattle and the Pacific Northwest. The film’s key performers are almost all first-time actors or second-time collaborators with me. I am unwaveringly committed to a methodology that embraces storytelling as a universal human trait. As tools to filmmakers become more available\, the localization of cinema is vital – adding nuance\, specificity\, potency and authenticity to stories represented in film. No story is “too small”. \nIn essence\, “Know Your Place” is an exercise in this process – reflecting the possibilities of storytelling in cinema that is grounded in community\, friendship and ongoing cultural exchange. This film is as independent and homegrown as it gets: a diverse cross section of our city’s inhabitants\, collaborating to bring a story of ‘home’ to life in a way that honors the beauty of our shared space\, and the nuance of the individual experiences contained within it. \n– Zia Mohajerjasbi\, Seattle\, WA\, September 2022 \nReserved seating tickets will be available for $15 ($10 for students) either online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500\, starting on November 15th\, 2024. \nWant to receive early notice and access to ticket sales? SUMMARY:Honoring Women Peacebuilders in Africa and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, January 22\, at 7 PM\, Gesa Power House Theatre proudly features Honoring Women Peacebuilders in Africa and Beyond. This event is sponsored by The American Association of University Women (AAUW)-Walla Walla and Humanities Washington. \nRichard Middleton-Kaplan (he/him) is the director of Academic Support Services at Whitman College. In 2011\, Richard spent a sabbatical at the Centre for Applied Human Rights at University of York\, helping to develop a course on literature and human rights. His publications include “Using Literature to Teach Peace” in Peace Research: The Canadian Journal of Peace and Conflict Studies. \nWhat makes women’s peacebuilding movements so effective—often more effective than larger scale national and international initiatives? Why is the work of women peacebuilders less well-known and celebrated than that of their male counterparts? Is the collective nature of women’s peacemaking work a reason it’s both effective yet also underappreciated?   \nIn this talk\, meet peacebuilders beyond the usual names like Mother Theresa and Jane Addams\, and gain an appreciation for the collective nature of women’s peacebuilding activities. Glimpse the more peaceful horizon that could dawn if we inspired and supported women’s peacebuilding collectives.  \nGesa Power House Theatre is committed to ensuring that the arts are for everyone. Join us for this free community event\, bringing impactful stories to the Walla Walla Valley. Donations are welcome! \n
