SUMMARY:Chase Joliet's "Grapefruit"
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre presents Chase Joliet’s indie film Grapefruit\, featuring actress Rosanna Arquette\, as part of the Power House Movies Series\, on Wednesday\, November 15 at 7PM. \nAfter a devastating divorce\, Travis (Chase Joliet) is forced to move into his childhood home with his eccentric\, newly sober mother (Rosanna Arquette). While attending an AA meeting with Evelyn\, Travis meets the wildly alive Billie (Stephanie Barkley). Against his mother’s wishes\, he develops a friendship with her\, pushing everyone to look beyond their shortcomings and accept each other for who they are and where they’ve been. \nFilmed by a 14-member crew in Tracy\, Calif. over the course of 14 days\, Grapefruit explores addiction\, new beginnings\, and the importance of community. \nBut according to the film’s director and lead actor Chase Joliet: “At its core\, Grapefruit is about acceptance. Accepting our flaws and imperfections\, our past and our present\, and most importantly each other. My goal was to take the romantic comedy formula we all know so well and insert three flawed human beings desperately trying to let go and move on.” \nAbout the Director: Chase Joliet is an actor and filmmaker from Dallas\, Texas. He worked with legendary director Terrence Malick for a number of years on To the Wonder\, Voyage of Time\, and Song to Song after which he produced his first independent feature film KRISHA (A24) which won SXSW Grand Jury award and audience award\, premiering at the CANNES Film Festival in 2016. \nChase won the John Cassavetes Award at the 2016 Indie Spirit awards and went on to help develop Trey Edward Shults’ second feature It Comes At Night (A24). Chase’s short film directorial debut is the comedic short Everything Mattress which won multiple audience awards and is currently being sold in European Territories. \n“Grapefruit is my [feature-length] directorial debut\, opposite my wildly talented wife\, Stephanie Barkley. We made the movie over fourteen days with the help of friends and family… and a little known actress\, Rosanna Arquette. I’m forever grateful for this experience and everyone who joined me along the way.” \nTickets ($15 Adults\, $10 Students) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500.

Additionally\, this programming is supported in part by the Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF) and the National Endowment for the Arts. \nInternational Guitar Night is the world’s premier touring guitar festival\, each show bringing together the most interesting and innovative acoustic guitarists to exchange musical ideas in a public concert setting. For each tour\, IGN founder Brian Gore brings together a new cast of guitar luminaries for special evenings of solos\, duets\, and quartets that highlight the dexterity and diversity within the world of acoustic guitar. Brian founded IGN in 1995 as a forum for the world’s finest guitarists/composers to play their latest original songs and share musical ideas and talent with their peers. \n\n\nLuca Stricagnoli (Acoustic Rock Interpreter): Using up to five guitars in the same piece\, modified capos\, and self-conceived stratagems\, Luca continually leaves his audiences in awe and wondering what’s next for the up-and-coming guitarist. In addition to his musical abilities\, Luca brings an enthusiastic energy to the stage that makes him a true entertainer. \nWith music videos surpassing over 100 million views\, his latest invention—a custom Triple Neck Guitar—obtained once again viral success with over 40 million views online. His performances with this instrument have been featured in magazines everywhere and even grabbed the attention of famous bands such as “Red Hot Chili Peppers.” Luca has played in more than 20 countries and in front of audiences of up to 12\,000 people. \n\n\nThu Le (Award-winning Classical Guitarist): Thu Le is an international award winning classical guitarist and certified guitar teacher. She passed the entrance examination for the National Conservatory of Music\, Hanoi at the age of only seven\, making her the youngest ever student to be admitted to this prestigious establishment. \nShe hosts successful master classes across the globe and stays close to her cultural roots by performing regularly in Vietnam. Thu Le performs regularly at the famous Joaquin Rodrigo Guitar Festival in Spain and the renowned International Guitar Festival in Kolkata\, India and collaborates and performs with orchestras\, string quartets\, vocalists\, violinists\, flutists and in guitar duo. \n\n\nMarco Pereira (Brazilian Composer\, Guitarist & Professor): Marco Pereira is an internationally renowned Brazilian composer\, guitarist\, and university professor. SUMMARY:Caesar Sings Nat 'King' Cole
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre welcomes Caesar and his celebrated show “Caesar Sings Nat ‘King’ Cole” on Saturday\, February 17\, 2024 at 7PM. \nAs soon as anyone hears Caesar’s smooth baritone vocals and debonair delivery\, listeners instantly recall Cole. As the Screen Actors Guild said\, “Caesars’ smooth velvet voice has often been compared to Nat King Cole’s\, but he has his own interpretation and style that compares to no one\, but is essentially and superbly… Caesar.” \nWhether accompanied by a big band\, orchestra\, or sparse acoustic guitar or piano instrumentation\, Caesar’s vocals are powerfully delivered with poise\, elegance\, and grace. A Chicago native\, Caesar has toured the world accompanying Julio Iglesias\, who has sold over 300 million records\, becoming the first and only male vocalist ever to tour with the global superstar.  \nIn August 2021\, Caesar was diagnosed with cancer. His doctors told him that he could lose his voice and hearing during his five cycles of chemotherapy and 36 radiation treatments to his head and neck. Caesar remained optimistic and told his doctors to help him prepare for his next show. On February 24\, 2022\, Caesar headlined at the Kennedy Center with the Symphony Orchestra\, 28 days after his last radiation treatment\, on January 4\, 2022. Today\, he is cancer free and continues to sing jazz standards and love ballads in five languages. \nCaesar recorded selections from Cole’s songbook at Capitol Studios\, in Studio A\, singing into the same microphone and utilizing the same Steinway piano that Cole used in the 1950s. “Jazz Standards for Today’s Audience\,” later retitled “Caesar Sings Nat King Cole\,” was engineered by 23-Time GRAMMY-winning legend Al Schmitt. \nReserved seating tickets begin at $35 ($20 for students) and are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500.  To join our +Power Club\, learn more and click here.

SUMMARY:Holy Frit
DESCRIPTION:The last time I was this entertained by an art documentary was Exit Through the Giftshop featuring none other than Banksy. \n— Josiah Teal\, FilmThreat \nGesa Power House Theatre proudly presents the acclaimed art documentary “Holy Frit” on Wednesday\, February 21 at 7 p.m. \nIn this visceral three-year race against time\, a talented\, yet unknown L.A. artist\, bluffs his way into winning a commission to create the largest stained-glass window of its kind. The problem is\, he doesn’t know how to make it.  \nThe documentary “Holy Frit\,” directed by Justin S. Monroe\, takes place in the chaos at Judson Studios\, among the artisans who have devoted their lives to stained glass. This includes principal designer Tim Carey\, who began as an oil painter. After netting a bid in 2014 to build a stained-glass window as big as a basketball court\, Carey invites legendary glass maestro Narcissus Quagliata to the studio for two weeks\, for a crash course in techniques. One such radical method is sprinkling “frit” (finely ground colored glass) across the completed panels. The “frit” fuses with the existing panels\, creating painterly impressionistic effects. Everyone is outside their comfort zone. \nTickets ($15 Adults\, $10 Students) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. \nWant to receive early notice and access to ticket sales? SUMMARY:One Noble Journey
DESCRIPTION:Wiley’s utterly astounding work most often splits my heart open. Then it heals it — but requests to leave little scars. And it’s the scars that enable a bit more stretch\, a bit more understanding\, a bit more light. — Stephen Barefoot \nGesa Power House Theatre proudly presents Mike Wiley’s historical play One Noble Journey on Friday\, March 1 at 7 p.m. This programming is brought to you in part by WESTAF and the National Endowment of the Arts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nHenry “Box” Brown was an African American born into slavery in 1816 in Louisa County\, Virginia. Although he was not subjected to physical violence\, Henry’s story (the basis for One Noble Journey) demonstrates the cruelty of slavery was every bit as devastating to the heart as it could be on the body. After his family was torn apart and parceled out to various beneficiaries of the estate\, Henry devised an ingenious escape plan – sealing himself in a wooden box for shipment to friends and freedom in Philadelphia. \nOne Noble Journey also recounts the daring and miraculous quest for freedom of Ellen Craft and her husband William\, who were born into slavery in Georgia. Ellen Craft\, who was very light skinned\, disguised herself as a sickly\, white gentleman traveling to Philadelphia for medical treatment. Ellen and William\, who acted as her slave throughout the journey\, bravely traveled on public trains and steamers as they made their way up the eastern seaboard to Philadelphia. Eventually they were forced to sail for England after the Fugitive Slave Law enabled slave hunters to pursue them even in free states. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Mike Wiley: Acclaimed actor and playwright Mike Wiley has spent the last decade fulfilling his mission to bring educational theatre to young audiences and communities across the country. In the early days of his career\, Wiley found few theatrical resources to shine a light on key events and figures in African-American history. To bring these stories to life\, he started his own production company. Through his performances\, Wiley has introduced countless students and communities to the legacies of Emmett Till\, Henry “Box” Brown and more. \nReserved seating tickets are $35 and are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500.
