SUMMARY:*CANCELLED* Live Cinema Series: "Swan Lake" - The Royal Ballet
DESCRIPTION:This production was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions\, so they were unable to film it for our viewing in the Live Cinema Series. All ticket-holders have been contacted by e-mail. \n\n \nLiam Scarlett’s glorious production of Swan Lake\, new in 2018\, returns for its first revival. While remaining faithful to the Marius Petipa/Lev Ivanov text\, Scarlett’s additional choreography and John Macfarlane’s magnificent designs breathe new life into what is arguably the best-known and most-loved classical ballet. The entire Company shines in this eternal tale of doomed love\, a masterpiece filled with iconic moments. Tchaikovsky’s first score for ballet soars with its symphonic sweep and combines perfectly with exquisite choreography from the grand pas de deux of Prince Siegfried and Odile to the swans at the lakeside. An intoxicating mix of spectacle and intimate passion\, the overall effect is irresistible. \nFilmed during a live event\, the Live Cinema Series broadcasts offer audiences an equivalent to the best seat in the house\, with incredibly detailed close-ups of the performers. SUMMARY:*POSTPONED* We Three
DESCRIPTION:This event is being postponed due to the efforts to slow the COVID-19 coronavirus. Patrons with tickets will be contacted directly as soon as possible\, once new dates are in place. \n\nWall 2 Wall Furniture & Mattress presents America’s Got Talent Semi-Finalists We Three in concert. \nIndie pop trio We Three (siblings Joshua\, Bethany\, and Manny) warmed hearts with their unforgettable 2018 America’s Got Talent audition in which they poured all their emotions into an original song\, which they dedicated to their late mother\, who passed away after a battle with cancer. They finished the season as semi-finalists\, and released their debut self-titled album later that year. \n \nIn December of 2019 We Three released a five-track EP they wrote themselves called “We’re All Messed Up But It’s Okay.” The collection of original songs mixes elements of pop\, indie\, rock\, rap\, and country to create a life-affirming sound that contrasts with the darkness of the subject matter. The lead track\, “Machine” was mixed by Grammy-winning Ruadhri Cushnan (Ed Sheeran\, Coldplay)\, and was accompanied by a music video in which the band play office workers rising against mundane aspects of corporate life. Other songs explore serious topics like depression (“Sara”)\, faltering relationships (“You and I”)\, and how your perceptions of someone can change as you grow into adulthood (“Superman”). \n \n“What makes We Three so special\, aside from their groove ridden and story-telling songs\, is their high-energy performances.\n-AXS \nWe Three’s original songwriting style is positive and purposeful\, with smart lyrics and infectious melodies. Their songs have landed on numerous Spotify play lists where their songs have been streamed more than 38 million times on Spotify and Apple Music alone. \nWe Three last performed at Gesa Power House Theatre to a sold out audience in January 2019. \nWant to receive early notice and access to ticket sales? SUMMARY:*CANCELLED* Live Cinema Series: "Fidelio" - The Royal Opera
DESCRIPTION:This production was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions\, so they were unable to film it for our viewing in the Live Cinema Series. All ticket-holders have been contacted by e-mail. \n\n \nBeethoven’s only opera is a masterpiece\, an uplifting story of risk and triumph. In this new production\, conducted by Antonio Pappano\, Jonas Kaufmann plays the political prisoner Florestan\, and Lise Davidsen his wife Leonore (disguised as “Fidelio”) who daringly sets out to rescue him. Set in strong counterpoint are the ingredients of domestic intrigue\, determined love and the cruelty of an oppressive regime. The music is transcendent throughout and includes the famous Act I Quartet\, the Prisoners’ Chorus and Florestan’s impassioned Act II cry in the darkness and vision of hope. Tobias Kratzer’s new staging brings together the dark reality of the French Revolutionary “Terror” and our own time to illuminate Fidelio’s inspiring message of shared humanity. \nFilmed during a live event\, the Live Cinema Series broadcasts offer audiences an equivalent to the best seat in the house\, with incredibly detailed close-ups of the performers. \nThis screening of Fidelio has an approximate runtime of 3 hours. It will be performed in German with English surtitles. SUMMARY:*POSTPONED* Live Cinema Series: "La bohème" - The Royal Opera
DESCRIPTION:This event is being postponed due to the efforts to slow the COVID-19 coronavirus. Patrons with tickets will be contacted directly as soon as possible\, once new dates are in place. \n\n \nLa bohème explores the love affair between the penniless poet Rodolfo and the seamstress Mimì\, contrasting it with the more light-hearted affair between the painter Marcello and the singer Musetta. Mimì is gravely ill with tuberculosis and she and Rodolfo decide to separate so that Mimì can find a wealthier lover to provide her with the care she needs. They are reunited in Mimì’s final hours when she returns to the only man she ever loved. \nDirector Richard Jones’s wonderful production of La bohème\, revived by Julia Burbach\, captures both the opera’s humour and its tragedy\, while Stewart Laing’s eye-catching designs bring 19th-century Paris to life\, particularly in Act II with its dazzling shopping arcades and café. The score is one of Puccini’s finest\, with highlights including Rodolfo and Mimì’s Act I arias and love duet\, Act II’s Christmas choruses and the heartbreaking final scene in which Mimì and Rodolfo are reunited. \nThe fantastic cast include America tenor Charles Castronovo (Rodolfo) and Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva (Mimì)\, along with Polish baritone Andrzej Filończyk as Marcello\, Russian soprano Aida Garifullina in her Royal Opera debut as Musetta\, Hungarian baritone\, and former jette Parker Young Artist\, Gyula Nagy as Schaunard and Slovakian bass Peter Kellner as Colline. French conductor Emmanuel Villaume conducts. \nFilmed during a live event\, the Live Cinema Series broadcasts offer audiences an equivalent to the best seat in the house\, with incredibly detailed close-ups of the performers. The Live Cinema Series is sponsored in part by Shakespeare Walla Walla. \nThis screening has an approximate runtime of 2 hours 45 minutes\, including one intermission. SUMMARY:*POSTPONED* Between and Behind Bars: A Movie Crush Varietal (short films)
DESCRIPTION:This event is being postponed due to the efforts to slow the COVID-19 coronavirus. Patrons with tickets will be contacted directly as soon as possible\, once new dates are in place. \n\nJoin us for an evening of harmony and discord: two blocks of short films\, focused first on music and its healing powers\, followed by an examination of incarceration and its lasting impacts. Each hour-long block will contain short films in a variety of genres: narratives\, documentaries\, animation\, and music videos\, forming a visual mixtape for all tastes and temperaments. \n\nBEATS\, BARS AND PHRASES\nMusic has the power to unite us\, a language understood by all\, even if the lyrics don’t always translate. In this tuneful hour\, you’ll hear how music functions\, how a band dysfunctions\, how a late rocker takes inspiration\, how an educator provides inspiration\, how a cassette offers escape and how a playlist alters our emotional states. \n\nBAR NONE\nAmerica has the highest incarceration rate in the world\, warehousing 716 of every 100\,000 citizens. The US represents only 4.4%  of global population\, yet comprises 22% of the global prison population. While justice must be served out\, how punishment is doled out is debatable. This powerful package explores the effects of imprisonment on felons\, families and democracy. In this hour\, you’ll see how our penal system treats jailed mothers\, ex-offenders\, future voters and death row inmates. The truth shall set us free? \nAdmission to this event is at the door by donation\, with proceeds going to Walla Walla Music Organization and the Post-Prison Education Program. Let your friends on Facebook know you are going and invite them to join you! \nThe annual Walla Walla Movie Crush celebrates the most intoxicating blend of American short film over the course of three days each July at Gesa Power House Theatre. The festival showcases narratives\, documentaries\, animation\, music videos and experimental films grouped in themed packages. \n\nThe Walla Walla Music Organization brings opportunities for creative expression through audio education to Walla Walla’s youth.  The organization provides the guidance and support students need to be successful in the field of music production\, while also unlocking confidence in their abilities and dreams. \nFounded in 2005\, the Post-Prison Education Program is the only program in Washington State that offers wrap-around services to releasing prisoners and their families in conjunction with providing them access\, support\, and the resources to attain post-secondary education. The program offers hope and creates opportunity for people returning to society by providing access to higher education. Imprisoned and formerly imprisoned people are offered the tools and human support they need to find gainful\, meaningful employment\, and break free from cycles of hopelessness\, poverty\, and imprisonment and become leaders for change. \n\nAre you visiting from out of town? \n\nsave 20% when you mention the “Power House Theatre” promotion or use this link to place your reservation at Courtyard Marriott

DESCRIPTION:This event has been rescheduled for Saturday\, March 27\, 2021. Patrons with tickets have been contacted by e-mail to confirm the new dates. This event is still SOLD OUT at this time. \n \nThe High Kings are Finbarr Clancy\, Darren Holden\, Brian Dunphy and newest member Paul O’ Brien. The band formed in 2007 when Brian\, Darren\, Finbarr and former member Martin Furey were asked to join a brand new Irish ballad group by David Kavanagh after he had noticed a gap in the market for a band specializing in traditional Irish music. \nIt didn’t take long during their first studio rehearsal for them to realize that the way their individual voices blended together\, they were onto something special. The High Kings play 13 instruments between them creating the unique sound and atmosphere that they still showcase to this day. \nTheir self-titled debut album reached number two on the Billboard World Music chart\, and in 2009\, The High Kings played five consecutive sold out shows in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre and licensed their second studio album “Memory Lane” to Universal Music Ireland – signifying the fast trajectory that the band had taken in their short lifespan. “Memory Lane” went platinum only four months after its release. \nOver the past 12 years The High Kings have toured frequently\, and released four studio albums\, two live albums and two DVDs. In 2017\, they released a compilation album “Decade” which celebrated 10 amazingly successful years together and also included five brand new recordings. \nIn 2012 they performed for President Obama in Moneygall\, this led to a personal invitation from the president to perform at the 2012 White House St. Patrick’s Day celebration. They flew directly from London where they had already been the headline act for the Lord Mayor of London’s St. Patrick’s Day concert. In 2015 The High Kings were invited to the Pentagon as guests of General Martin Dempsey\, who is the Chairman of the The Joint Chiefs of Staff. They performed alongside the US Marine Corps band marking another special occasion for the band. \nThe High Kings set the bar extremely high for Irish Folk bands across the world and are widely regarded to be at the forefront of the genre. The High Kings continue to perform to sold out venues across the globe to their ever-growing army of loyal fans that span generations. \nWant to receive early notice and access to ticket sales? And it isn’t digital\, it’s biological. \n \n“Eye-popping film that should become required viewing for students and people of all ages.”\n– Glide Magazine \nA breakthrough called CRISPR has given us unprecedented control over the basic building blocks of life. It opens the door to curing diseases\, reshaping the biosphere\, and designing our own children. Human Nature is a provocative exploration of CRISPR’s far-reaching implications\, through the eyes of the scientists who discovered it\, the families it’s affecting\, and the bioengineers who are testing its limits. How will this new power change our relationship with nature? What will it mean for human evolution? SUMMARY:Live Cinema Series "The Sleeping Beauty" - The Royal Ballet
DESCRIPTION:The Live Cinema Series continues at Gesa Power House Theatre with a screening of The Royal Ballet’s current production of The Sleeping Beauty on Wednesday\, February 26 at 6:00 p.m. \n \n★★★★★ The Stage\n★★★★★ Bachtrack \nJourney with The Royal Ballet to an enchanted world of princesses\, fairy godmothers and magical spells in this landmark production of Petipa’s classic ballet\, to Tchaikovsky’s glorious music. \nThis production of The Sleeping Beauty has been delighting audiences in Covent Garden since 1946. A classic of Russian ballet\, it established The Royal Ballet both in its new home after World War II and as a world-class company. Sixty years later\, in 2006\, the original staging was revived\, returning Oliver Messel’s wonderful designs and glittering costumes to the stage. Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky’s enchanting score and Marius Petipa’s original choreography beautifully combine with sections created for The Royal Ballet by Frederick Ashton\, Anthony Dowell and Christopher Wheeldon. This ballet is sure to cast its spell over anyone who sees it. \nThe Sleeping Beauty is based on the fairytale of the same name. The wicked fairy Carabosse is furious when she isn’t invited to the christening of Princess Aurora (Lauren Cuthbertson) and to get retribution\, Carabosse pronounces a curse: when Aurora grows up she will prick her finger on a spindle and die. The Lilac Fairy alters the curse\, so that rather than dying Aurora will fall into a deep sleep from which she can be awakened by a prince. On Aurora’s 16th birthday\, she does indeed prick her finger\, and along with the entire court falls into an enchanted sleep. The Lilac Fairy leads Prince Florimund (Federico Bonelli) to awaken Aurora with a kiss. Aurora and the court regain consciousness\, and celebrate the marriage of Princess Aurora and Prince Florimund. \nFilmed during a live event\, the Live Cinema Series broadcasts offer audiences an equivalent to the best seat in the house\, with incredibly detailed close-ups of the performers. The Live Cinema Series is sponsored in part by Shakespeare Walla Walla. \nThis screening has an approximate runtime of 3 hours 15 minutes including an onscreen introduction and two intermissions. SUMMARY:Live Cinema Series: "Coppélia" - The Royal Ballet
DESCRIPTION:The Live Cinema Series continues at Gesa Power House Theatre with a screening of The Royal Ballet’s current production of Coppélia on Wednesday\, February 5 at 6:00 p.m. \n \nCharming and funny\, Coppélia tells a story of love\, mischief and mechanical dolls. A family-friendly classic of The Royal Ballet’s repertory\, the ballet was choreographed by Royal Ballet founder Dame Nineete de Valois. Her choreography is technically complex and requires impeccable comic timing from the dancers. \nThe cast of this production features Marianela Nuñez as the feisty Swanilda\, Vadim Muntagirov as her beloved Franz\, and Gary Avis as the magician Dr. Coppélius. \nDr. Coppélius appears to have a beautiful daughter – Coppélia. Franz becomes infatuated with her\, which upsets his fiancée\, Swanilda. She and her friends break into the doctor’s house only to discover that Coppélia is one of several life-sized mechanical dolls that the doctor has created. Dr. Coppélius kidnaps Franz\, hoping to sacrifice him and bring Coppélia to life\, however\, Swanilda makes the mechanical dolls dance\, distracting the doctor so she and Franz can escape. Fortunately\, Dr. Coppélius is not as villainous as he first seems\, and in the final act he makes peace with Swanilda and Franz who are now free to marry. \nFilmed during a live event\, the Live Cinema Series broadcasts offer audiences an equivalent to the best seat in the house\, with incredibly detailed close-ups of the performers. SUMMARY:James Judd (stand-up storyteller)
DESCRIPTION:Stand-up storyteller James Judd will perform at Gesa Power House Theatre on Saturday\, January 25 at 7:00 p.m. \n \nMonologuist and humorist James Judd\, frequent headliner of NPR‘s Snap Judgment\, has accidentally ended up in a whorehouse in China while working as a banned journalist\, single-handedly ruined more than a half dozen good jobs (and counting) in industries ranging from journalism to law\, and is a former patient—and current pen pal—of sham Manhattan dermatologist turned Attica prisoner Dean Faiello. Judd is also is a writer and performer whose comic\, autobiographic tales crowd the stage with hilarious characters and situations. \nOften compared to David Sedaris and Oscar Wilde\, Judd connects with audiences as he shares stories classified as “spectacular public embarrassments and utter failures.” However humiliating\, they affirm that part of being human is telling the stories that have happened to us\, emphasizing that even in the face of failure\, it’s getting up and moving forward that matters. \nThe Washington Post says\, “Judd’s conversation style is loud\, lightning fast and nonstop — he doesn’t seem to need to breathe as much as a typical human — and the result is a constantly engaging pileup of quips. It can take a few moments for a joke to register\, but by then Judd has unfurled a few more laugh-worthy lines. One of Judd’s biggest assets is his delivery\, which rarely feels rehearsed\, as if he’s simply recounting these absorbing personal anecdotes over dinner. And his talents extend to physical humor\, whether he’s imitating a shark or mimicking an oafish boat captain.” \nA former member of the Los Angeles based improv group (and Saturday Night Live training ground) The Groundlings\, Judd worked the stand-up circuit until age 30\, when he decided to go to law school to become a criminal defense attorney. (He’s still licensed in New Hampshire.) An epiphany as an underprepared law student making his debut in criminal court—detailed in his story “The Defense Rests”—propelled him back to comedy\, where he opted for autobiographic storytelling instead of stand-up for a more theatrical and satisfying experience for himself and his audience. \nReserved seating tickets ($40) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500.
