Times are rough\, and they’re about to get worse. When Scout Durwood’s girlfriend dumps her unexpectedly\, Scout takes stock in her life and determines that from now on\, if something doesn’t feel one hundred percent authentic to her\, she’s not doing it! Her debut studio album\, TAKE ONE THING OFF\, was released with Blue Élan Records along with a 22-episode digital series of the same name\, which was written and directed by Scout. The series amassed over 275k views on YouTube and was nominated for Best Indie Series at the 2019 Streamy Awards. In 2020 and 2021\, she released follow up EP’s\, COMEDY ELECTRONICA VOL. 1 & 2. YOUTOPIA premiered at Outfest 2022 and was the runner up for The Grand Jury Prize for Best North American Feature. Scout starred in MTV’s scripted comedy series\, MARY+JANE and FUNNY GIRLS on Oxygen. Her 30-minute comedy special is available in the Epix series\, UNPROTECTED SETS. \nScout started her career in New York City where she was a staple in the cabaret\, burlesque\, and queer nightlife scenes. Both she and her live shows were nominated for numerous awards including Huffington Post’s 20 Burlesquers to Know and GO! Magazine’s emcee of the year. \nReserved seating tickets ($15 adults\, $10 students) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. \nGesa Power House Theatre is currently operating at full capacity\, but will continue to follow the most recent guidance from state and county Departments of Health. SUMMARY:Scout Durwood Live
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre will welcome comedian Scout Durwood to the stage on Saturday\, February 4 at 7 p.m. \nScout Durwood Live combines comedy\, music\, storytelling and cabaret into a singular narrative extravaganza including hits from TAKE ONE THING OFF and COMEDY ELECTRONICA such as (I DON’T WANT TO) HOLD UR BABY\, SEXUALLY IMPLICIT\, STEAL UR GIRLFRIEND and more. \nInspired by her formative years as a go-go dancer and burlesque emcee\, Scout’s joyfully irreverent outlook on life embraces Big Tent Queerness as a way of spreading love and unity throughout the land. A throwback to the Bette Midler bathhouse shows of the 70’s\, this lightly interactive experience embraces queerness not just as sexual orientation\, but as a way of life. From a dance craze inspired by Wacky Wavers to a heartfelt embrace of the darkest parts of our psyche\, Scout encourages audiences to fly their freak flag with pride. It’s a comedy special with a lot of heart. \nThis show runs two hours with intermission. Reserved seating tickets starting at $30 ($20 for students) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. \nGesa Power House Theatre is currently operating at full capacity\, but will continue to follow the most recent guidance from state and county Departments of Health. SUMMARY:Power House Movie: An Evening of Ukrainian Shorts
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theater proudly presents “An Evening of Ukrainian Shorts\,” a benefit screening of short films on Wednesday\, March 1 at 7 p.m. This series is curated by Director of Film Programming Warren Etheredge and brought to you in part by Walla Walla Movie Crush. \nThe next installment of our Power House Movie series\, “An Evening of Ukrainian Shorts\,” brings to your local screen a selection of short films created\, directed\, and produced by Ukrainian filmmakers. In this line-up of deeply moving pieces is  “Diaper Cake” (directed by Anastasia Babenko)\, a short following two young people and their baby having to grow up fast during difficult times\, and “Liturgy of Anti-Tank Obstacles” (directed by Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk)\, a film exploring the lives of sculptors in west Ukraine who previously made religious statues and now fin themselves retraining to build anti-tank obstacles to help fend off the Russian invasion. \nThese short films stand as a testament to the power and resilience of the Ukrainian people no matter the circumstances. As Director Anastasia Babenko puts it\, “Ukraine is not a ruin. It’s a place of love\, power\, and freedom. ‘Life will win over death\, and the light will win over darkness.'” \nAddressing her short film\, Director Anastasia Babenko said\, “‘Diaper Cake’ is a love letter to my sister Katia and to my nephew Zakhar\, and more broadly\, to all Ukrainian women and children. Since the war broke out in my home country\, my perception of the film has changed drastically. Our story is set in a maternity hospital\, and I can’t help thinking about the maternity hospital in Mariupol destroyed by a Russian airstrike on March 9\, 2022. As of April 2022\, at least 217 children were killed\, and 393 children were injured in this war. Those who died in that horrible attack resemble our characters a lot. They were young people at their most intimate\, pure and hopeful\, happy to bring another life into this world. My sister and my five-year-old nephew are now refugees. They had to leave their home like millions of Ukrainians. With the images of destroyed Ukrainian cities in the media\, I would like to show another side of Ukraine.” \nFor an inside look into “Liturgy of Anti-Tank Obstacles\,” watch Director Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk’s statement for Sundance Film Festival 2023. \n \nA portion of this event’s proceeds will be donated to Livyj Bereh\, a volunteer and artist-run charity dedicated to rebuilding houses in war-torn but liberated areas of Ukraine. To see this group in action and to show your support\, visit Livyj Bereh’s instagram profile. \nTickets ($15 Adults\, $10 Students) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500.

SUMMARY:Little Watts: Peter and the Wolf
DESCRIPTION:On March 23\, 2023\, at 7 p.m.\, Tel Aviv Wind Quintet will perform “Peter and the Wolf” at the Gesa Power House Theatre. As part of the Little Watts Family Series\, this event is sponsored in part by Walla Walla Valley Honda and AAUW-Walla Walla. \nThe Tel Aviv Wind Quintet is one of the most successful chamber music ensembles in Israel today. The group was established in 2009 by five young Israeli musicians seeking to expose a broader audience to the wonderful wind repertoire\, as well as commissioned works. By combining music with other art forms such as theater and movement\, the Quintet also aims to build upon and expand the existing concert format. \n \n“A charming chamber arrangement of ‘Peter and the Wolf’. The Tel Aviv Wind Quintet members\, directed by Ari Teperberg\, have created a new format… Five players are responsible for the solo parts\, the orchestral playing\, and even the narration\, the story telling\, and the acting. This format works particularly well thanks to the talents of Quintet… the excellent playing of this group was no surprise\, but the graceful and humorous theatrical presentation made this show especially enjoyable.”\n—Amir Mandel\, ‘Weekly recommendation’\, Ha’aretz\, November 25\, 2020 \nThe Quintet is supported by the Israeli Ministry of Culture. It was awarded the Eilam Prize for Israeli Performers (2011) as well as grants from the Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts\, Haifa Arts Foundation\, Ronen Foundation\, and the Israel Lottery Council for Culture & Arts. \nReserved seating tickets ($12 adults\, $8 Youth 12 and under) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. \nGesa Power House Theatre is currently operating at full capacity\, but will continue to follow the most recent guidance from state and county Departments of Health. SUMMARY:Power House Movies: Seattle Jewish Film Festival - Selected Shorts
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre’s Director of Film Programming Warren Etheredge curates a collection of the best short films from the 2023 Seattle Jewish Film Festival for this program on March 29 at 7 p.m. \nOne of two in-person encore screenings (the other is set for March 30 at Hillel at University of Washington)\, Walla Walla’s showing of the Seattle Jewish Film Festival 2023 lineup is an exploration of the many ways grief is observed\, celebrated\, and/or sanctified. \nIn the words of Curator Warren Etheredge: \n“Spiritually and culturally\, we have many ways to mourn and bless the dead. Some follow prescribed customs\, others form new traditions with the passing of loved ones. The Mourner’s Kaddish\, the Jewish prayer recited in honor of the deceased never mentions death or dying\, but instead proclaims the greatness of G-d. It encourages reciters to not wallow in grief or ignore the impact of loss altogether. In fact\, the word kaddish actually means sanctification in Aramaic\, similar to the Hebrew word kadosh\, or holy. This program of short films examines the metaphorical progression and three stages of Jewish mourning rituals—from Aninut to Shiva to Sheloshim—noting the passing of parents\, grandparents\, neighbors\, strangers\, and even a beached whale. Curated together\, these beautiful lamentations also attest to how international artists sanctify a period of global grief with cinematic blessings.” \n \nTo virtually catch the Seattle Jewish Film Festival in full\, visit the festival’s main website here. \nReserved seating tickets ($15 adults\, $10 students) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. This event will have a total runtime of about 90 minutes. \nIf you want to purchase four or more titles in the Power House Movie series\, save 10% by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. DESCRIPTION:The Wildcards will perform live at Gesa Power House Theatre on Saturday\, April 1\, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. \nAshley Gearing and Andrea Young are no strangers to Nashville’s music scene. Both have numerous accolades to their names having worked with some of the biggest and baddest names in the business. The girls bonded while touring internationally with the former\, critically-acclaimed band Farewell Angelina. The two found that their chemistry needed its own stage. SUMMARY:"Being Michelle"
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre proudly presents the award-winning feature-length documentary “Being Michelle” on Wednesday\, April 26 at 7 p.m. \n“Being Michelle” follows the astonishing journey of a deaf and disabled woman who survived incarceration and abuse under unimaginable circumstances by a system that refused to accommodate her needs as a deaf person with autism. Michelle’s trajectory changed when she met Kim Law\, a blind volunteer life coach who teaches classes to people in prison. Today\, outside of prison\, Kim and Michelle are doing the difficult work of unraveling Michelle’s history\, of telling the story of Michelle’s traumatic childhood and her adverse experiences in the criminal justice system. With the support of Kim\, Michelle realizes her own voice and strength. Throughout the film Michelle’s artwork provides her own depiction of the trauma she survived as well as a means to her recovery. Ultimately\, “Being Michelle” is a story of redemption. It is about the bonds between women committed to thriving in a broken system\, who are forging a path to healing that can only come through facing the truth and communicating it\, together. \n“Being Michelle” has received a landslide of accolades which are all listed on their website. More recently\, at the 2023 IDYLLWILD International Festival of Cinema\, an event the Hollywood Insider calls “the greatest little film festival on earth\, “Being Michelle” received recognition in three different categories: (Winner) Golden Era Humanitarian Film Award\, (Vanguard) Award for Cinematic Achievement Director Documentary Feature\, (Vanguard) Award for Cinematic Achievement Documentary Feature.   \nReserved seating tickets are $15 for adults ($10 for students) and are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. \nIf you want to purchase four or more titles in the Power House Movie series\, save 10% by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. SUMMARY:Walla Walla Choral Society - Die Nachtigall
DESCRIPTION:Die Nachtigall: A Celebration of Spring will be held on May 28 at 3 p.m. and May 29 at 7 p.m. at Gesa Power House Theatre. \nFrom German\, “Die Nachtigall” translates as “The Nightingale” and is the title of a song within a larger song cycle\, “Sieben frühe Lieder\,” composed by Alban Berg in 1907. “It is because the nightingale has sung throughout the night\,” the lyrics share\, “that from the sweet sound of her echoing song the roses have sprung up.” \nMany composers have set texts along this theme and we will visit them\, noting each difference and similarity along the way. Both German and English texts will be celebrated\, so dust off your literary translations and join the Walla Walla Choral Society as we celebrate spring! \nReserved seating tickets start at $17 and are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. \nWant to receive early notice and access to ticket sales?
