Rushmore of Comedy\, this man’s head would be on it. With more than 30 years of experience in comedy\, Brad Upton performs all over the world\, and opens for some of the biggest names in show business\, including the legendary Johnny Mathis. \n \nBrad Upton was a 4th grade teacher and high school track coach (at Pasco High School) when he stepped on stage for the very first time in September of 1984 and he’s never looked back. He quickly rose through the stand-up comedy ranks making numerous television appearances and headlining comedy clubs from coast-to-coast. \nIn June of 2018 Brad went viral around the world. Dry Bar Comedy posted a video on Facebook and it had 36 million views in 10 days. They quickly followed with another and they combined for 47 million views in 11 days! His CD shot to Number 1 on the iTunes Comedy chart\, and Brad’s Dry Bar Comedy videos currently have a combined 170 million views! \nAlthough his comedy career keeps him busy\, each year Brad takes time off for one of his other passions: coaching track and field. Her debut studio album\, TAKE ONE THING OFF\, was released with Blue Élan Records along with a 22-episode digital series of the same name\, which was written and directed by Scout. DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theater proudly presents “An Evening of Ukrainian Shorts\,” a benefit screening of short films on Wednesday\, March 1 at 7 p.m. This series is curated by Director of Film Programming Warren Etheredge and brought to you in part by Walla Walla Movie Crush. \nThe next installment of our Power House Movie series\, “An Evening of Ukrainian Shorts\,” brings to your local screen a selection of short films created\, directed\, and produced by Ukrainian filmmakers. In this line-up of deeply moving pieces is  “Diaper Cake” (directed by Anastasia Babenko)\, a short following two young people and their baby having to grow up fast during difficult times\, and “Liturgy of Anti-Tank Obstacles” (directed by Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk)\, a film exploring the lives of sculptors in west Ukraine who previously made religious statues and now fin themselves retraining to build anti-tank obstacles to help fend off the Russian invasion. \nThese short films stand as a testament to the power and resilience of the Ukrainian people no matter the circumstances. As Director Anastasia Babenko puts it\, “Ukraine is not a ruin. It’s a place of love\, power\, and freedom. ‘Life will win over death\, and the light will win over darkness.'” \nAddressing her short film\, Director Anastasia Babenko said\, “‘Diaper Cake’ is a love letter to my sister Katia and to my nephew Zakhar\, and more broadly\, to all Ukrainian women and children. Since the war broke out in my home country\, my perception of the film has changed drastically. Our story is set in a maternity hospital\, and I can’t help thinking about the maternity hospital in Mariupol destroyed by a Russian airstrike on March 9\, 2022. As of April 2022\, at least 217 children were killed\, and 393 children were injured in this war. Those who died in that horrible attack resemble our characters a lot. They were young people at their most intimate\, pure and hopeful\, happy to bring another life into this world. My sister and my five-year-old nephew are now refugees. They had to leave their home like millions of Ukrainians. Today\, the quintet performs more than 30 concerts each season all around Israel\, including its most prestigious concert venues\, such as the YMCA (at the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival)\, the Jerusalem Music Centre\, the Mormon University\, Henry Crown Hall in the Jerusalem Theater\, the Israel Conservatory and the Tel-Aviv Museum. Special emphasis is placed on creating perennial cultural and educational programs for underprivileged communities in the periphery of Israel\, from Kfar Blum to Mitzpe Ramon. DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre’s Director of Film Programming Warren Etheredge curates a collection of the best short films from the 2023 Seattle Jewish Film Festival for this program on March 29 at 7 p.m. \nOne of two in-person encore screenings (the other is set for March 30 at Hillel at University of Washington)\, Walla Walla’s showing of the Seattle Jewish Film Festival 2023 lineup is an exploration of the many ways grief is observed\, celebrated\, and/or sanctified. \nIn the words of Curator Warren Etheredge: \n“Spiritually and culturally\, we have many ways to mourn and bless the dead. Some follow prescribed customs\, others form new traditions with the passing of loved ones. The Mourner’s Kaddish\, the Jewish prayer recited in honor of the deceased never mentions death or dying\, but instead proclaims the greatness of G-d. It encourages reciters to not wallow in grief or ignore the impact of loss altogether. In fact\, the word kaddish actually means sanctification in Aramaic\, similar to the Hebrew word kadosh\, or holy. Michelle’s trajectory changed when she met Kim Law\, a blind volunteer life coach who teaches classes to people in prison. Today\, outside of prison\, Kim and Michelle are doing the difficult work of unraveling Michelle’s history\, of telling the story of Michelle’s traumatic childhood and her adverse experiences in the criminal justice system. With the support of Kim\, Michelle realizes her own voice and strength. Throughout the film Michelle’s artwork provides her own depiction of the trauma she survived as well as a means to her recovery. Ultimately\, “Being Michelle” is a story of redemption.
