SUMMARY:Power House Movie: "Since I Been Down" (documentary)
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre presents a free Power House Movie screening of the 2020 documentary film Since I Been Down on Wednesday\, February 2\, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. \n \nMeet Kimonti Carter. Former president and current member of an over 40-year Washington State prisoner-initiated program\, the Black Prisoners’ Caucus. At 34\, Kimonti founded TEACH (Taking Education and Creating History)\, a remarkably innovative prisoner education program. \nKimonti and a group of his peers maneuver through a non-negotiable pathway to joining gangs as early as 11-years-old. This is a community profoundly impacted by the city’s disinvestment in housing\, education\, and employment as well as our policies in the 1990’s. In 1993\, the voters of Washington State allowed a “three strikes” law to pass that sent criminals to prison for life. What has this legacy of captivity done to them\, and to their communities? \nSince I Been Down is told by the people who have lived these conditions\, and intimate stories from interviews are brought to life through archival footage\, cinema verité discussions\, masquerade\, and dance. The film explores why children commit violent crime and how these children – now adults – are breaking free from their fate by creating a model of justice that is transforming their lives\, our humanity and a quality of life for all our children. \nAdmission is free. Please reserve your seat ahead of time to avoid confusion. This event will have a total runtime of about 2 hours. \nPlease review our current health and safety precautions\, including required mask use. Ticket holders will receive an email during the week before the show with any updates. \nWant to receive early notice and access to ticket sales? Join the +Power Club (highest priority) or sign up for our e-mail list! \n\nPower House Movies are powered by what you can’t get anywhere else in the Walla Walla Valley. Not only do we showcase award-winning festival favorites\, feature-length narratives\, documentaries\, and undiscovered gems\, we pair them with exclusive content from the movie makers themselves – most often in conversation with our Director of Film Programming\, Warren Etheredge. Join us for a night out in our historic venue\, and enjoy a glass of wine with the show. It’s an experience worth leaving the couch for! \n\nSeason Sponsors: \n     \nWalla Walla Union-Bulletin\, Northwest Public Broadcasting\, Pacific Power\, Hayden Homes \nAdditional support provided by:\nWalla Walla County\, Port of Walla Walla\, City of Walla Walla \nEach Coldwell Banker Office is Independently Owned and Operated

Vincent was also included in the North Bay Best of 2021 list \nThroughout the play more than a hundred of Van Gogh’s paintings are projected on a framed screen\, providing a rich overview of the artist’s work and visual complement to the story. \n“Insightful and moving”\n– LA Times \n \n“A fantastic ride”\n– Le Monde \nActor Jean-Michel Richaud is a founding member of the award-winning theater company The Next Arena\, has starred in many company productions\, and has appeared in numerous television and film roles\, including What Just Happened with Robert De Niro\, Bottle Shock opposite Alan Rickman\, and Agent X opposite Sharon Stone. SUMMARY:Power House Movie: "Aviva" (cutting edge cinema)
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre presents a Power House Movie screening of the 2020 independent film Aviva on Wednesday\, January 19\, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. \n \n“A freewheeling blend of dance and surrealist interrogations of gender identity…entrancing.“\n– IndieWire \n“Its leaps and transitions are often mind-bending…illuminating and expansive.”\n– The Hollywood Reporter \nAfter meeting online\, transatlantic lovers Aviva and Eden embark on a tumultuous courtship\, love affair and marriage. The couple struggles\, separates\, and tries to get back together\, as dual aspects of each one’s personality battles forces inside and out. \nDirector Boaz Yakin ‘s (Remember the Titans) dreamy dance film\, with choreography from former member of Israeli dance company Batsheva Dance Company and co-star Bobbi Jene Smith\, tells a story that is timeless\, universal and yet up-to-the-moment. The character of Aviva\, played by both Zina Zinchenko (and at times by Or Schraiber)\, is a young Parisian who develops an online romance with Eden\, played by Tyler Phillips (and at times Bobbie Jene Smith)\, a New Yorker. After a long courtship they meet in person and fall in love\, settling into an intimate relationship that leads to marriage\, but one\, as many are\, laced with conflicts. Incorporating exuberant dance sequences\, and featuring a pair of principal characters played by four different actors daringly expressing both masculine and feminine sides\, Aviva captures a restless and changing today where who we are as women and men\, and how we navigate the world\, is up for grabs. \nReserved seating tickets ($15 adults\, $10 students) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. This unrated film contains nudity and has runtime of about 2 hours. \nIf you want to purchase 4 or more titles in the Power House Movie series together and save 10%\, please call the box office at 509-529-6500 (offer not available online). \nPlease review our current health and safety precautions\, including required mask use. SUMMARY:Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival – 2022 Winter Festival will conclude with a Festival Series concert at Gesa Power House Theatre on Sunday\, January 16\, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. The concert will feature the string trio BLUE…RED…GREEN by Carman Moore\, a brief gem by Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson\, and the 3rd Sonata for Violin and Piano by George Enescu. \nWWCMF continues with its intention to honor composers of color\, and in our small way\, make up for lost time during which our industry showed this beautiful repertoire neglect. Carman Moore is a prolific composer\, conductor\, and educator\, having served on the faculties of Carnegie-Mellon and Yale Universities. His works have been performed by major orchestras the world over. BLUE…RED…GREEN was composed in 2007. \nThe concert concludes with the reprise performance of the Enescu Sonata No. 3 for violin and piano. The work will reveal even more of its many mysteries in this second hearing. \nArtists: Timothy Christie\, viola; Artur Girsky\, violin; Rowena Hammill\, cello; David Korevaar\, piano; and Maria Sampen\, violin. \nGeneral admission tickets ($30) are available through the WWCMF website. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. \nBe sure to read the WWCMF COVID19 vaccination policy. SUMMARY:The Comfort to Come (world premiere\, live theatre)
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre presents the world premiere\, live theatrical production of The Comfort to Come by Lisa Battle with performances on Friday\, November 19 at 7:00 p.m.\, Saturday\, November 20 at 7:00 p.m.\, and Sunday\, November 21 at 2:00 p.m. There will be a live Q&A with the playwright following the November 20 performance. \nThe Comfort to Come is a new play by Whitman College graduate Lisa Battle\, and is directed by Whitman College Professor Emerita Nancy Simon. The cast includes: Shauna Lilly Bogley\, Kevin Loomer\, Nathan Loomer\, Kathryn Bogley\, and Julie Jones. \nCass (Shauna Lilly Bogley) spent most of her life taking care of her mother who suffered Alzheimer’s disease. She realized that as her mother lost touch with the reality around her\, she created a new one. The hereditary nature of the disease means Cass soon follows her mother into this reality – the fantasy world they created when she was a child. The family Cass leaves behind watches with wonder and sorrow as she slips into a world of griffins\, mermaids\, and rhyming couplets. Cass\, however\, finally finds comfort joining her mother in their shared creation at the border of life and death. \nThe Comfort To Come was first developed at The Barrow Group Theater in New York City in their “Works in Progress” series. Two installations of the piece were presented there as dramatic readings. Later the play was a semifinalist for the 14th St. Y fellowship in 2019. After the pandemic spoiled plans for an independent production\, director Rachel Whorton and Lisa Battle produced the play virtually. In March of 2021\, they put up a production up over zoom and raised more than $2\,000 for The Alzheimer’s Foundation. \nPlaywright Lisa Battle was an Arthur Miller Fellow working as a drama teacher at a public middle school in Queens until the pandemic hit. Now she is a high school English Teacher in California. Several of her 10 minute plays were presented at The Barrow Group Instant Play Festivals and Works in Progress Readings in New York City. She is an alumnus of the British American Drama Academy and has performed with the People’s Theater Project in Manhattan. Lisa also toured the U.S. and Canada with Formerly Whitty Productions as the director/producer. Her commentary has been featured on numerous popular comedy podcasts. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Educational Theater from NYU and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater from Whitman College where she studied under Nancy Simon. \nReserved seating tickets ($23 adult\, $17 students) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. \nPlease review our current health and safety precautions\, including required mask use. SUMMARY:Songs of the Nearly Forgotten (stories\, songs\, séance)
DESCRIPTION:Unfortunately\, as the performer is unable to reach Walla Walla due to weather-related flight cancellations\, this event is now canceled. \n\nSongs of the Nearly Forgotten is a one-woman story and song show in which storyteller Katie Anne Mitchell explores themes of isolation\, femininity and finding your place in this world through conducting a séance. That’s right. A séance. \nThrough writing\, through performance\, and through songs Mitchell shares slice-of-life stories that are simply and heartbreakingly human. Her most recent release Alice’s Land draws from folk\, alternative\, country\, and spoken word roots to share small moments in the lives of five women. Five different women who have forgotten themselves\, or forgotten what exists around them\, or have been forgotten by the world. More than forgetting\, though\, this performance is about remembrance. These are the stories that drive that trusty old train from victim to creator\, choo-chooing at every stop in between. \nThis event is part of a new Patio Pulse series\, which is all about enjoying local and regional talent in a safe outdoor setting appropriate for all ages. Folding chairs will be provided\, but patrons are welcome to bring their own chairs. The street will be closed to vehicle traffic. Concessions will be available for purchase. \nSongs of the Nearly Forgotten was previously scheduled as part of the canceled 2021 Summer Stage Festival in August. The Summer Stage Festival will re-launch in August 2022! \n\nWant to receive early notice and access to ticket sales? SUMMARY:Pigs on the Wing - A Tribute to Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here 2021
DESCRIPTION:Pink Floyd tribute band Pigs on the Wing return to Gesa Power House Theatre on their “Wish You Were Here” concert tour on Saturday\, October 23 at 7:30 p.m. \n\nClose your eyes and imagine having the opportunity to experience the soaring majesty of Pink Floyd’s music in an intimate venue. That is the Pigs on the Wing experience: a melding of the epic\, arena scale of Pink Floyd with the visceral experience of being front row at a rock club. \nPigs on the Wing has on occasion been referred to as “the most punk rock of the Pink Floyd tributes” and that is a badge the band wears with unequivocal pride. None are bigger fans of the work of Pink Floyd than the members of Pigs on the Wing\, and while the band approaches the material with the deepest respect for legacy of the music\, they also chart a course suggesting a willingness to push the musical boundaries of a traditional tribute band. \nTracing its roots to a one-off performance in Portland in 2006\, Pigs on the Wing has steadily developed a devoted fanbase and a reputation for delivering a high quality\, high energy take on Pink Floyd’s music\, steeped in the NW’s own rich musical heritage. \nAll members of the band are seasoned veterans of the original NW rock scene and balance a decidedly un-tribute like attitude towards the music with a deep understanding of the precision and importance of Pink Floyd’s music in many fans’ lives. The result is a sound and experience both refreshing in delivery and yet true to the original – something the band believes sets it apart from other Pink Floyd tributes. \nPigs on the Wing’s 2021-2022 feature show is a full album performance of Pink Floyd’s 1975 psychedelic masterpiece Wish You Were Here\, followed by a full second set of carefully curated Roger Waters era Floyd. \nReserved seating ticket ($25 in advance\, $30 at the door) are available online or by calling the Gesa Power House Theatre box office at 509-529-6500. Please review our current health and safety precautions\, including required mask use. Ticket holders will receive an email during the week before the show with any updates. \n\n \nPigs on the Wing is ( L to R): Eric Welder (bass / vocals); Holly Brooks (vocals); David Lindenbaum (guitar / vocals); Pete Galluzzo (sax); Bryan Fairfield (drums); Matt Jones (keys / vocals); Jason Baker (guitar / vocals) \n\nThis event is a rental by Pigs on the Wing. SUMMARY:The High Kings
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre presents The High Kings in concert on Saturday\, October 16\, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. \n \nThe High Kings are Finbarr Clancy\, Darren Holden\, Brian Dunphy and newest member Paul O’ Brien. The band formed in 2007 when Brian\, Darren\, Finbarr and former member Martin Furey were asked to join a brand new Irish ballad group by David Kavanagh after he had noticed a gap in the market for a band specializing in traditional Irish music. \nIt didn’t take long during their first studio rehearsal for them to realize that the way their individual voices blended together\, they were onto something special. The High Kings play 13 instruments between them creating the unique sound and atmosphere that they still showcase to this day. \nTheir self-titled debut album reached number two on the Billboard World Music chart\, and in 2009\, The High Kings played five consecutive sold out shows in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre and licensed their second studio album “Memory Lane” to Universal Music Ireland – signifying the fast trajectory that the band had taken in their short lifespan. “Memory Lane” went platinum only four months after its release. \nOver the past 12 years The High Kings have toured frequently\, and released four studio albums\, two live albums and two DVDs. In 2017\, they released a compilation album “Decade” which celebrated 10 amazingly successful years together and also included five brand new recordings. \nIn 2012 they performed for President Obama in Moneygall\, this led to a personal invitation from the president to perform at the 2012 White House St. Patrick’s Day celebration. They flew directly from London where they had already been the headline act for the Lord Mayor of London’s St. Patrick’s Day concert. In 2015 The High Kings were invited to the Pentagon as guests of General Martin Dempsey\, who is the Chairman of the The Joint Chiefs of Staff. They performed alongside the US Marine Corps band marking another special occasion for the band. \nThe High Kings set the bar extremely high for Irish Folk bands across the world and are widely regarded to be at the forefront of the genre. The High Kings continue to perform to sold out venues across the globe to their ever-growing army of loyal fans that span generations. \n \nThe High Kings are currently on tour to promote their new album – Home from Home. \nReserved seating tickets ($40) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500.
