SUMMARY:The Aunties
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre is humbled to welcome The Aunties to our stage on Saturday\, May 9 at 7PM for a contemporary Indigenous storytelling experience. This programming is brought to you in part by the National Endowment for the Arts\, with additional support from the Washington Stories Fund grant at Humanities Washington\, ArtWalla Art Builds Community Grant\, the Betty Kinsman Fund at The Kinsman Foundation\, The Roundhouse Foundation Small Grant\, and a Spark Good Local Grant from Walmart #2492. This event is also sponsored by Friends of the Theatre. \nThe Aunties is an invitation to come together to honor the women that shape\, heal\, and uphold Indigenous communities through an evening of contemporary storytelling\, shared live from the stage alongside familial and archival photographs and works of legacy. The Aunties project is shared at sites across the Blue Mountain region\, featuring stories by Indigenous women who call the local area their home and who have dedicated their life’s work in service to their community. We come together to honor the contributions and enduring legacy of Native women\, whose stories inspire new narratives and guide new generations of leaders. We join in community to reflect on our collective history to nurture hope for a brighter future. \nStorytelling from the live performance will be preserved on film to become the heart of a narrative-driven documentary series that captures the artistic\, cultural\, and visual integrity of the places and people from which auntie stories emerge. \nTHE AUNTIES:\nƗtísyawak\, Mildred Quaempts\, was born in 1953 and raised on the Umatilla Reservation by her maternal grandparents who were fluent Ičiškiin speakers of the Umatilla and Yakama dialects. SUMMARY:Our Mr. Matsura
DESCRIPTION:On May 20th\, 2026\, at 7PM\, Gesa Power House Theatre proudly presents Our Mr. Matsura\, directed by Emmy award-winning filmmaker Beth Harrington. This program is supported in part by Friends of the Theatre\, and a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission. Foloowing the film screening there will be a Q&A opportunity with the filmmaker! \nOur Mr. Matsura is the story of Frank (Sakae) Matsura\, the orphaned son of a samurai\, who emigrated to Washington State in 1901\, eventually settling in remote Okanogan County. There he embedded himself in a community of Native people and newly arrived settlers and immigrants\, including miners\, ranchers\, shopkeepers\, and cowboys. In short order\, he became the region’s leading photo-chronicler and\, to many\, its most beloved citizen. Matsura not only made engaging photographs of people\, events\, and landscapes\, but he also revealed facets of himself through scores of unusual self-portraits. Upon his untimely death at the age of 39\, he was mourned in the largest funeral anyone in the area had seen to that date. Through his lens\, Frank Matsura offered up remarkable retellings of life in the American West and gave people new ways of thinking about themselves. A century later\, the people of the county and the Colville Confederated Tribes still have pride and a sense of connection to the work he created. \nFive years in the making\, Our Mr. Matsura includes the thoughts and family memories of a wide array of people from the Colville Confederated Tribes and the small Washington communities of Okanogan\, Omak\, Conconully\, and Brewster\, as well as extended family members in Japan and experts from around the world. The film not only celebrates the life of this amazing immigrant photographer\, but also the lives of the people who have helped uphold his memory in the century since his death. \n \nReserved seating tickets begin at $15 ($10 for students) and will become available online to +Power Club members on February 8 at 8AM\, and to the general public on February 15 at 8AM. To join our +Power Club\, or learn more\, click here.

SUMMARY:Texas Music Revolution
DESCRIPTION:On June 10th\, 2026\, at 7PM\, Gesa Power House Theatre is excited to present Texas Music Revolution! \nTexas Music Revolution follows the journey of indie radio station KHYI-FM GM and music festival founder Joshua Jones as he produces the silver anniversary of this iconic event. As much a document of reintroducing live music in the wake of a pandemic\, it is a celebration of Texas and its roots–where\, at the crossroads of purist country and Americana has evolved the iconic ‘red dirt’ Waylon-and-Willie style considered one of three pillars of American country music. For more than a quarter of a century\, KHYI-FM’s commitment to radio independence has given voice to this unique sector of the country western genre. TMR has subsequently emerged as an iconic live showcase and grown into one of the largest independent music festivals in the USA. In a volatile era where larger festivals have shuttered\, Joshua and KHYI must double down to produce their grandest event yet.

In this never-ending nationwide talent show of kid and family music\, they are most definitely at the top.” \nSays Stefan Shepherd of Zooglobble.com\, “Recess Monkey just keeps turning out album after album with pop nuggets\, as if we’d just discovered that the Beatles had recorded a ton of kids music 40+ years ago.” \nRecess Monkey has earned dozens of awards over its twelve year history.
