SUMMARY:Power House Movie: "Thin Skin" (plus live Q&A with the filmmakers)
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre presents a Power House Movie screening of the music-infused drama Thin Skin on Friday\, April 15\, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. Several of the filmmakers will be in attendance for a live Q&A following the screening\, including director and co-screenwriter Charles Mudede\, lead actor and co-screenwriter Ahamefule J. Oluo\, and co-screenwriter Lindy West (Shrill). \n \n \n“Thin Skin is a movie any director would be proud to claim. It’s a solid\, steady movie that soars beyond the limitations of its Indie budget.”\n– Film Threat \nAhamefule Joe Oluo’s days are spent at a soul-deadening corporate job and his nights come alive behind a trumpet at Seattle jazz clubs. As he struggles to climb out of the ruins of his broken marriage\, Aham has to deal with endless bureaucracy\, a boss trying to lead him to the Lord\, and his mother who won’t cut ties with his ex. \nAham finds himself living with his entire family once again in his sister’s cramped one bedroom apartment. The one person missing from this living situation is Aham’s estranged Nigerian father\, whose brief reappearance sends the family into a tailspin and a search for meaning. Pressed together in this vise of a home\, the family struggles with adult life and the meaning of family. \nThin Skin was filmed primarily in Seattle. \nFilmmaker guests: \nDirector and screenwriter Charles Mudede is a Zimbabwean-born cultural critic\, urbanist\, writer\, filmmaker\, and film editor for The Stranger\, a Seattle weekly publication. Film credits include Police Beat and Zoo which both premiered at Sundance. \nLead actor\, composer and screenwriter Ahamefule J. Oluo is a Seattle-based musician\, composer\, writer\, and stand-up comedian. Thin Skin is loosely autobiographical and is in turn based on his award-winning Off-Broadway show Now I’m Fine and the This American Life story “The Wedding Crasher”. \nScreenwriter Lindy West is a columnist at The Guardian\, a contributor to This American Life\, and a freelance writer whose work focuses on feminism\, social justice\, humor\, and body image. Her first book Shrill made the New York Times Best Seller’s List and has been adapted into a television series which is in production by Hulu. \nReserved seating tickets ($15 adults\, $10 students) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. This event will have a total runtime of about 2 hours. \nIf you want to purchase 4 or more titles in the Power House Movie series together and save 10%\, please call the box office at 509-529-6500 (offer not available online). \nGesa Power House Theatre is currently operating at full capacity\, but will continue to follow the most-recent guidance from state and county Departments of Health in terms of face coverings\, etc. Current guidelines are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. \nWant to receive early notice and access to ticket sales? Join the +Power Club (highest priority) or sign up for our e-mail list! \n\nPower House Movies are powered by what you can’t get anywhere else in the Walla Walla Valley. Not only do we showcase award-winning festival favorites\, feature-length narratives\, documentaries\, and undiscovered gems\, we pair them with exclusive content from the movie makers themselves – most often in conversation with our Director of Film Programming\, Warren Etheredge. Join us for a night out in our historic venue\, and enjoy a glass of wine with the show. It’s an experience worth leaving the couch for! \n\nSeason Sponsors: \n     \nWalla Walla Union-Bulletin\, Northwest Public Broadcasting\, Pacific Power \nAdditional support provided by:\nWalla Walla County\, Port of Walla Walla\, City of Walla Walla \nEach Coldwell Banker Office is Independently Owned and Operated
