SUMMARY:Live Cinema Series: "Faust" - Royal Opera
DESCRIPTION:The 2019 Live Cinema Series continues at Gesa Power House Theatre with a screening of the current Royal Opera House production of Faust on Sunday\, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. This production is filmed live in London and rebroadcast internationally to select screens. \n \nThere are many versions of the story of Faust\, who trades his soul with the Devil for youth and power\, but Gounod’s opera remains one of the most constantly enthralling. Michael Fabiano stars as Faust\, with Diana Damrau as his beloved Marguerite and Erwin Schrott as the diabolical Méphistophélès. Virtuoso leading roles\, a large chorus\, music by Gounod\, sensational sets\, ballet and an ecstatic finale make this the epitome of theatrical spectacle – the lavish scale of French grand opera is wonderfully in evidence in this production by David McVicar\, set in 1870s Paris. Above all\, the music includes several of popular opera’s most recognizable numbers\, performed by a cast of great international singers and the Royal Opera Chorus. \nFilmed during a live event\, the Live Cinema Series broadcasts offer audiences an equivalent to the best seat in the house\, with incredibly detailed close-ups of the performers. \nThis screening runs approximately 3 hours 35 minutes including an onscreen introduction and one intermission. Faust is performed in French with English surtitles. Please note that this production contains scenes with brief sexual violence and drug misuse. \nBeer\, wine\, popcorn\, and snacks will be available for purchase\, and may be taken into the theater. No outside food or beverages allowed. \nReserved seating tickets ($15 Adults\, $10 Students) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. SUMMARY:Live Cinema Series: "The Taming of the Shrew" - Royal Shakespeare Co.
DESCRIPTION:The 2019 Live Cinema Series continues at Gesa Power House Theatre with a screening of the current Royal Shakespeare Company production of The Taming of the Shrew on Wednesday\, June 26 at 6:00 p.m. This production is filmed live in Stratford-upon-Avon and rebroadcast internationally to select screens. \n \n★★★★ “A landmark production as women take charge”\n-EVENING STANDARD \n★★★★ “Deftly provocative and exuberantly entertaining”\n-THE TIMES \n \nIn a reimagined 1590\, women are in charge. Women hold the power\, control the state\, and own the property. In a society where men have no authority\, Lady Baptista is selling off her two sons to the highest bidders. Cue an explosive battle of the sexes in this electrically charged love story. \nDirector Justin Audibert turns Shakespeare’s fierce comedy of gender politics on its head with a production that offers a fresh perspective on its portrayal of power. Complete with a luxurious Elizabethan set\, exquisite traditional costumes\, and a contemporary-meets-renaissance musical score\, this is a joyous and entertaining production of Shakespeare’s fierce comedy of the sexes. \nFilmed during a live event\, the Live Cinema Series broadcasts offer audiences an equivalent to the best seat in the house\, with incredibly detailed close-ups of the performers. \nThis screening runs approximately 3 hours including an onscreen introduction and one intermission. \nBeer\, wine\, popcorn\, and snacks will be available for purchase\, and may be taken into the theater.
