SUMMARY:Little Watts: The Zaniac
DESCRIPTION:On November 2nd at 2 PM\, Gesa Power House Theatre proudly presents the family-friendly show\, The Zaniac! \nWhen was the last time you laughed as hard as your kids? \nWith captivating amounts of energy\, Alex Zerbe moves like a rubber band from one end of the stage to the other. Beatboxing\, juggling\, dancing\, singing\, music and magic are just a few of the things that led Piers Morgan of America’s Got Talent to call Alex “the total package.” \nThe “Professional Zaniac\,” whoʼs been cracking jokes onstage for almost 15 years\, zigzags between physical stunts and non-stop comedy. During the show vegetables are sliced in half by flying playing cards\, flaming torches and bowling balls are juggled with ease\, and every audience volunteer leaves the stage in triumph. \nA self-described “human cartoon\,” his show isnʼt only for the kids in the family. “I try to make my show like the movie Shrek\, super entertaining for the kids but there’s a whole other level of comedy for teens and adults\,” says Zerbe. Formerly of the award-winning duo Brothers from Different Mothers\, Zerbe is a Hacky Sack World Champion\, was voted The Pacific Northwest’s Funniest Prop Comic and is currently ranked Seattle’s 3rd Best Air Guitarist. Heʼs performed everywhere from cruise ships and comedy clubs to prime-time television in three countries\, including “Americaʼs Got Talent!” and “Last Comic Standing.” \n \nTickets ($12 for adults\, $8 for children 12 and under) will be available on August 15th\, either online or via the box office (509-529-6500). Want early access to tickets? Consider joining our +Power Club! \nThis event is sponsored by Pacific Power Foundation\, Milton-Freewater Area Foundation\, and Windermere. This program is also supported\, in part\, by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission. This project is also supported in part by Creative West which receives support in part from the National Endowment for the Arts\, a federal agency.

SUMMARY:Sequential: The Storytelling Power of Comic Books
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday\, June 11\, 2025 as Gesa Power House Theatre proudly presents Sequential: The Storytelling Power of Comic Books. This event is sponsored by Humanities Washington. \nJosh Tuininga (he/him) is an author\, artist\, and designer. After studying fine art at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago\, he founded an art and design agency\, where he continues to work as creative director. His work has been published in the magazines Communication Arts and HOW Design. Tuininga is the author of the children’s books Why Blue? and Dream On. We Are Not Strangers is his first graphic novel\, which was a 2024 Washington State book award finalist!\n \nDespite the graphic novel’s skyrocketing popularity\, many still view the art form as unsophisticated or less credible than traditional forms of literature. In this talk\, comic artist Josh Tuininga shows how comic books and graphic novels are not only powerful art forms\, but have unique abilities to challenge young readers in surprising ways and can help prepare students for a rapidly changing future.   \nTuininga traces the origins of sequential art—exploring the evolution of the art form and its impact on readers and culture throughout history. He also shares an in-depth look at the sequential art process as he presents his graphic novel\, We Are Not Strangers—a true family story which follows a Jewish immigrant’s efforts to help his Japanese-American neighbors while they are incarcerated during World War II.  \nGesa Power House Theatre is committed to ensuring that the arts are for everyone. Join us for this free community event\, bringing impactful stories to the Walla Walla Valley. Donations are welcome!

SUMMARY:Little Watts: Peter and the Wolf
DESCRIPTION:On March 23\, 2023\, at 7 p.m.\, Tel Aviv Wind Quintet will perform “Peter and the Wolf” at the Gesa Power House Theatre. As part of the Little Watts Family Series\, this event is sponsored in part by Walla Walla Valley Honda and AAUW-Walla Walla. \nThe Tel Aviv Wind Quintet is one of the most successful chamber music ensembles in Israel today. The group was established in 2009 by five young Israeli musicians seeking to expose a broader audience to the wonderful wind repertoire\, as well as commissioned works. By combining music with other art forms such as theater and movement\, the Quintet also aims to build upon and expand the existing concert format. \n \n“A charming chamber arrangement of ‘Peter and the Wolf’. The Tel Aviv Wind Quintet members\, directed by Ari Teperberg\, have created a new format… Five players are responsible for the solo parts\, the orchestral playing\, and even the narration\, the story telling\, and the acting. This format works particularly well thanks to the talents of Quintet… the excellent playing of this group was no surprise\, but the graceful and humorous theatrical presentation made this show especially enjoyable.”\n—Amir Mandel\, ‘Weekly recommendation’\, Ha’aretz\, November 25\, 2020 \nThe Quintet is supported by the Israeli Ministry of Culture. It was awarded the Eilam Prize for Israeli Performers (2011) as well as grants from the Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts\, Haifa Arts Foundation\, Ronen Foundation\, and the Israel Lottery Council for Culture & Arts. \nReserved seating tickets ($12 adults\, $8 Youth 12 and under) are available online or by calling the box office at 509-529-6500. \nGesa Power House Theatre is currently operating at full capacity\, but will continue to follow the most recent guidance from state and county Departments of Health.
