SUMMARY:C Street Brass
DESCRIPTION:Join Gesa Power House Theatre on Sunday\, October 5 at 5PM as we welcome C Street Brass to the stage! This program is supported\, in part\, by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission. This project is also supported in part by Creative West which receives support in part from the National Endowment for the Arts\, a federal agency. \nC Street Brass began in 2008 as a small project between five friends who are coincidentally the most handsome men ever to grace the earth. Equally as comfortable in the sound world of baroque music as they are in Broadway\, C Street Brass’ mission is to connect lovers of the arts from all walks of life around a highly energetic and engaging concert experience. \nC Street Brass was Ensemble in Residence at Carnegie Mellon University from 2012-2015 During this time the group fell in love with the thriving music scene of Pittsburgh\, PA where the group is now based. C Street has been featured on a variety of performing arts series around the country including: Corpus Christi Chamber Music Series\, Chamber Music Pittsburgh\, and Strings Music Festival where they were Artists in Residence from 2013-2018. Internationally\, C Street Brass has toured in Tbilisi\, Georgia as resident ensemble of the 2012 Traveling Notes Music Festival and in Doha\, Qatar in 2014 as ambassadors for Carnegie Mellon University.\n\nIn 2014\, members of C Street Brass developed Beauty Slap\, an entirely new band concept combining the sound of classically trained brass with modern electronic dance music. The result was the creation of an entirely new genre\, thunder funk. Beauty Slap has performed and toured extensively across the United States. Often\, C Street Brass and Beauty Slap share dual residencies to offer contrasting and complementary perspectives on the current state of entrepreneurship and the business of music. \nReserved seating tickets are available starting at just $30 ($20 for students) to Power Club members on August 8 at 8am\, and open to the general public on August 15 at 8am\, either online or via the Box Office at 509-529-6500. SUMMARY:Preserved
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre proudly presents PRESERVED on Wednesday\, October 15\, 2025\, at 7PM. \nIn an era of wildfires\, drought\, and species decline\, Vermejo is proof that ecosystem restoration is possible. And it’s a blueprint for where it can happen next. PRESERVED is more than a film—it’s a call to action. From farmers and ranchers to hikers and hunters\, we all have a role to play.\n\nFor nearly 175 years\, the Southwestern United States has seen civilizations rise and fall\, leaving behind landscapes stripped by time and industry. Northern New Mexico’s 560\,000-acre Vermejo is one such place—a land rich with history\, from dinosaurs and early Indigenous communities to homesteaders\, a conservation-minded grain baron\, and Hollywood’s glitterati seeking outdoor recreation. But modern times took their toll\, leaving it overgrazed and scarred by mining. \nIn 1996\, Ted Turner bought the land as part of his work to restore and protect lands across the United States. A dedicated team began to work to heal the land\, transforming it into a thriving sanctuary. Today\, Vermejo stands as a testament to what’s possible: biodiversity restored\, landscapes reborn\, and a model for global conservation. \nShot over 130+ days in breathtaking cinematography\, PRESERVED unveils this hidden paradise\, capturing ancient archaeological wonders and unseen wildlife behaviors—bears stealing mountain lion kills\, microscopic worlds thriving in water-filled potholes\, and animals adapting to a changing planet. Scientists\, ranchers\, and visionaries come together to revive a landscape once thought lost\, with voices like media mogul Ted Turner\, leading conservationist Kris Tompkins\, and renowned author Craig Childs. \nThis program is supported\, in part\, by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.  \nReserved tickets will be available for $15 ($10 for students) on August 15th\, either online or via the Box Office at 509-529-6500. SUMMARY:Checkpoint Zoo
DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre proudly presents CHECKPOINT ZOO on Wednesday\, October 29\, 2025\, at 7PM. \nCheckpoint Zoo documents a daring rescue led by a heroic team of zookeepers and volunteers who risked their lives to save thousands of animals trapped in a zoo behind enemy lines during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.\n\nOn February 24\, 2022\, Russia invaded Ukraine\, starting the worst war Europe has seen in over 50 years. In the early days of the invasion\, some of the fiercest fighting was on the outskirts of Kharkiv\, Ukraine’s second – largest city. On one side was the advancing Russian Army\, on the other side the\ndefending Ukrainian Army. And in between them was a zoo… called Feldman Ecopark. \nMore than just a sanctuary for animals\, Feldman Ecopark offered countless community programs from animal therapy to charity events for children with special needs. It was a cultural center for Kharkiv’s 1.4 million citizens\, unfortunately positioned less than 30 kilometers from the Russian border. When the invasion started\, Kharkiv turned into a battleground\, and the staff was forced to flee Ecopark\, leaving 5\,000 animals trapped in between the Russian and Ukrainian frontlines. Both sides were firing on each other\, and everything that fell short landed in Feldman Ecopark. But that wasn’t enough to stop several brave zookeepers from venturing back into the park time and time again to continue caring for the surviving animals. When two zookeepers were killed\, four\nvolunteers appeared on Feldman’s doorstep\, ready to help in any way they could. \nAs the war continued\, and the shelling increased\, it was clear that even the incredible bravery of the zoo staff wouldn’t be enough to save the animals. The zoo’s founder\, Oleksandr Feldman\, posted a desperate plea to social media asking for help. Miraculously\, the post went viral\, and zoos from across Ukraine and all of Europe volunteered to house the remaining animals. \nEncouraged by the response\, the zoo staff and these volunteers resolved to do the impossible – they would sneak back into Feldman Ecopark and evacuate thousands of animals\, including many dangerous predators\, and bring them to safety. In doing so\, they put themselves in incredible danger\, risking their lives to save innocent animals. \nWorking from footage captured by the zookeepers\, volunteers\, news media\, and himself on his own trip to Ukraine\, filmmaker Joshua Zeman tells the moving\, suspenseful\, and powerful story of these real – life heroes. The film details the initial attack\, the efforts to continue tending to the trapped animals\, the hair – raising evacuation\, and tragically\, the price these volunteers paid to do the right thing. \nThe zookeepers and volunteers of Checkpoint Zoo show us the absolute best of humanity at a time when it is all too easy to focus on the worst. In the face of violence\, destruction\, and cruelty\, this film is a testament to the power of compassion\, empathy\, and sacrifice. \nThis program is supported\, in part\, by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.  \nReserved tickets will be available for $15 ($10 for students) on August 15th\, either online or via the Box Office at 509-529-6500.
