DESCRIPTION:Gesa Power House Theatre presents: \n“Cabaret”\na musical directed by Tyson Kaup\nbook by Joe Masteroff\nbased on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood\nmusic by John Kander lyrics by Fred Ebb\nproduced by arrangement with TAMS-WITMARK MUSIC LIBRARY\, INC.\nAugust 18\, 19\, 25\, 26 – 7:00 PM\nAugust 20\, 27 – 2:00 PM \n \n \nCABARET is set in a Berlin nightclub\, as the 1920’s draw to a close. Guests are welcomed by a garish Master of Ceremonies who urges everyone to leave their troubles at the door. CABARET explores the dark\, heady\, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. Musical numbers include “Willkommen\,” “Cabaret\,” “Don’t Tell Mama” and “Two Ladies.” \nCABARET opened on Broadway on November 20\, 1966\, played for 1\,165 performances at the Broadhurst\, Imperial\, and Broadway Theatres\, and won eight Tony Awards. A film version of the musical\, starring Joel Grey (the original Emcee) and Liza Minnelli\, directed by Bob Fosse\, was released in 1972 and received eight Academy Awards.
